It is my favorite movie directed by Robert Altman. The story and the directing are great and the story is just spellbinding and sometimes even pretty funny. Tim Robbins was really great in those days. It is underrated gem and it is definitely woth a look.

I disliked the protagonist and a few other characters because they're selfish assholes and uninteresting characters; I'm aware what I dislike about the film is probably a satire of apparently greedy 80's culture, Hollywood film culture, and crowd pleasing films.
Like Day For Night, this film is more interesting than the characters because of the subtext and love for cinema; The Player is still worth watching because it's a great postmodern satire."

"An inventive, clever satire of the Hollywood screenwriting industry. From the very onset of its beginning seven-minute tracking shot, The Player is a film that is laden with pure cinematic artsy goodness. Within its narrative, dialogue, aesthetics, and even its acting performances, traces of classic Hollywood convention can be found, sometimes as an homage, other times as a parody. Full of wit, with a surprising level of depth and morality; not to mention a seemingly endless amount of celebrity "
"The ultimate movie for cinefiles. Has lots of connections to other movies, awesome and funny satire about Hollywood and an exciting story. The opening scene is one of the bests ever, because it really makes you interested.
