Honestly, I did have some potential. It is a sort of combination of 'The Neverending story' and 'Roger Rabbit'. Unfortunately, this flick never reaches the quality of those 2 movies. When I was a kid, I remember seeing a trailer for this movie. I eventually saw it after seeing the Nostalgia Critic's review of it, and I watched it, and... well, he was right about the part of this movie being a bit boring, but not entirely boring, and he got some parts of the message wrong. "Gah, this movie doesn’t make me want to read! It makes me want to hurt people! The only way I can see this movie making any kid want to read is threatening them to play it again if they don’t! I mean, the idea is nice and at times the animation is impressive, but the movie is just so uninteresting and boringly dull that…I think it would actually scare kids away from reading than it would encourage them. And the way it glosses over all those famous literary characters, it’s like the movie"

Childhood Movies I've Watched, But No Longer Like (94 movies items)

"I remember seeing a preview on the VHS tape of Once Upon a Forest. Once it was on at Cartoon Network, I checked it out for curiosity, and I even fell asleep when I first saw it. It was that dull and boring. The preview was even misleading, as I thought it would be an epic fantasy adventure."

I eventually saw it after seeing the Nostalgia Critic's review of it, and I watched it, and... well, he was right about the part of this movie being a bit boring, but not entirely boring, and he got some parts of the message wrong. This movie is about becoming brave, which is what the timid Richard Tyler has to learn, so says The Pagemaster himself, played by one of my favorite actors, Christopher Lloyd.

On his quest, Rich comes across the swashbuckling Adventure, the sassy but sweet Fantasy, and the lovable cowardly doofus Horror, all 3 of them anthropomorphic books. The movie is fun and comical at times, but this isn't exactly a movie with the caliber of Disney.

My rating: 6/10” read more
