The first phase of transformation of young Joe.

The Danish director Lars Von Trier is one of the rarest among who rapidly changes theme, plot and genre in his each movie. I love his filmography and been watching those for some time now. I am not a great fan of musical themes, but his movie 'Dancer in the Dark' is one of my all time favourites. These all led me here to take a quick glance on his latest two installment movie series.

To take with humour, otherwise would be indigest. For moments, I prefer the austere present tense, with shy Skarsgard, than the dynamic past.

Yes I am watching this two part craziness. I decided to go with the director's cuts. So I will be taking my time to watch these as it totals out to about 5 hours or more. I mean it has to be better than that pile of crap Fifty Shades of Grey. So it starts off with a couple minutes of annoying black screen. Then it shows several shots of parts of an alley. It was a bit uncomfortable to see Joe as a... read more

" The Ups: Stellan Skarsgård goes full circle repeating his role as a shrink for a nymphomaniac like he did for "Anita" for over 40 years ago. Playful at times. Graphic sex and art go hand in hand. Stacy Martin has an extremly daring debut performance but is also believable as a young Charlotte Gainsbourgh. Christian Slater redeems himself in a vulnerable performance as Joe's father. The Downs: Director's cut goes overboard with too much graphic sex, blood and gore and ruins what is a more art"

A good movie

“First of all, I have to point out that, even though I managed to find a UK double DVD with the director's cut for a decent prize, to my disappointment,  for some reasons, they didn’t provide any subtitles. I mean, I'm completely fluent  in English  (I even have  a university master degree in English) but it is still not my mother tongue so I'm afraid I did miss some bits here and there. Obviously, you might argue that this movie was probably not about the dialogues but you would be wrong. Indeed, maybe 1 third was about her actions and the rest was all about her narration  and her fascinating conversation with Stellan Skarsgård. Of course, as usual with this director, the whole thing was really dark and gloomy but I was this time quite able to connect with this material, even if it” read more
