"When the legend becomes fact, print the legend."

John Ford was one of the many luminaries of the western genre. With one of his final western films, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is truly one of the most elegant westerns in cinematic history. The two principal actors featured here are enough to guarantee unfathomable success.

A train rumbles through the desert, drawing into a small western town -- Shinbone. Only two people emerge, Ransom Stoddard (James Stewart) and his wife Hallie (Vera Miles), to be met by Link Appleyard (Andy Devine). There seems to be a link between these three which surpasses the smart clothes of the Stoddard's, the scruffy outfit of Appleyard and the fact that Ransom is State Senator! The local n... read more

" Nice way to start summer holiday. Maybe the first western I ever saw starring John Wayne or James Stewart. "

"Watched on the 25th My dad actually suggested this to me a few months ago and so I finally got round to watching it. One of the few westerns I've actually seen with John Wayne in (although I have quite a few in my 'to watch' list). It was entertaining throughout and even had an alright twist ending, although I have to admit I guessed it before it was revealed. Angel Eyes(Lee Van Cleef) has a small role too! (not as Angel Eyes of course) "

Movies the giraffe watched: February 2013 (21 movies items)

"First viewing - Feb. 2nd/3rd I can now say I've seen not only one of John Wayne's movies, but one of John Ford's as well. And it was pretty good...solidly entertaining, good story, decent acting. I liked it a lot but never quite loved it. If anything it's started my interest in Lee Marvin who is pretty badass here. Ah and it was mildly irksome to see a movie where the characters in the "past" don't look much younger than those in the "present", making the time difference rather questionable. Bu"

"21.01. Blu-ray, 1st viewing DIRECTED BY John Ford It's good. The performances are good, the black and white is good, the plot is good... but it's still not my cup of tea really. The political side of it doesn't interest me all that much and it takes up almost half of the film. As soon as Liberty Valance - the film's most interesting character - dies (spoiler!) the film becomes quite a drag. Well, there's still a boozing John Wayne acting like an emo kid but other than that. "
