Through Oppenheimer’s footage of perpetrators of the 1965 Indonesian genocide, a family of survivors discovers how their son was murdered, as well as the identities of the killers. The documentary focuses on the youngest son, an optometrist named Adi, who decides to break the suffocating spell of submission and terror by doing something unimaginable in a society where the murderers remain in power: he confronts the men who killed his brother and, while testing their eyesight, asks them to accept responsibility for their actions. This unprecedented film initiates and bears witness to the collapse of fifty years of silence.

Movies the giraffe watched in 2016: November (23 movies items)

"First viewing - Nov. 29th A sequel to a documentary is an odd thing anyway, especially in this case where this one's predecessor The Act of Killing was such a tough watch anyway. This time we follow one man's journey toward closure regarding the death of his brother. It's all well-made but also depressing at times & gets repetitive after a while. The people involved are interesting enough I guess, but I wasn't as engaged as I was with The Act of Killing. Looking around at others' ratings it see"

Best Films of 2015 (85 movies items)

" 8.4/10 The follow-up to one of my favorite documentaries of all time, "The Act of Killing", this toned down doc takes a very different approach to the same subject, with clever, intimate and horrifying results. Much like the first, good luck getting this film's subject and images out of your mind. "
