Considered by many as the very best British gangster film although often forgotten and even unknown to others. Maybe the reason is it getting lost in the deluge of 80s movie stars that began a new era of publicity and much publicized movies; or that the movie itself was strikingly new, blunt and too bold. Hoskins against fellow Brit actors too succumbed to the ultra-charms of the Michae1 Caines an... read more

According to many, The Long Good Friday has been called the best British gangster film of all time as well as one of the best British films! Now after watching it, I am not surprised at all! Every single second was intense, dark and psychologically disturbing. I do have to say that it is a very underrated film that I feel should have earned more credit than it received (not so much the critics but... read more

My Favorite 175 Films From The 80's, y'all. (175 movies items)

"Bob Hoskins plays a well-to-do English king of the mountain mob-boss who tries to legitimately enter into the world of business. However, even with the best of intentions at heart, he soon comes to realize that, just when he thought he was out, they pull him back in again. So I guess The Long Good Friday is kinda like the British version of The Godfather Part 3. And I mean that in a good way. "

"Home - New Aside from a pretty lousy score this is a really amazing, really brutal, British crime thriller. Hoskins is fantastic as the central protagonist and seems to be a template for the smooth talking, upwardly mobile, sleazeball heroes (and villains) of 1980s cinema."

100 Essential Male Film Performances (99 movies items)

"Bob Hoskins He’s a feisty British fireplug, the kind of man you expect to be manning a shovel on a construction site, or managing boxers after a faded glory career all his own, not starring in major motion pictures. Still few had heard of Hoskins outside his native UK prior to his turn as Harold Shand, a gruff old school gangster who wants to go legit, with decidedly difficult results. Unusually handsome in a beefy, unmade manner, and deadly with a gesture or a word, Hoskins virtually sits at "
