No doubt that the Leopard is a cinema classic. It is so big, so epic that most shots are in landscape. That characters talk from afar just to escape being dubbed. But the sets are marvelously detailed, in widescreen, you could see about 20 full-costumed people from head to toe, which kinda hurt the eyes. The battle scenes are likewise big though not well choreographed. In all the grandness, Lancas... read more

" January 25th It's unlikely I would ever have watched The Leopard. I only watched the film as I'm a big fan of Burt Lancaster, thus it was initially disappointing to discover his lines are dubbed in the Italian version of the film. Needless to say I was bored throughout, however I wonder If I would have enjoyed the American version more with Lancaster's English speaking lines intact."

My movie year 2013 (659 movies items)

"18.8. (Teatteri) Visuaalisesti mahtipontinen historiaeepos kauniilla maisemilla sekä musiikeilla. Sisilialainen macho-kulttuuri tai tylsään rupatteluun pohjautuva pukudraama eivät kuitenkaan sytytä, joten tosiasiassa filkan parhaaksi puoleksi jäävät Terence Hillin ja Giuliano Gemman esiintymiset valkokankaalla."

Movie Reviews (part 2) (50 movies items)

" The Ups: Gorgeous scenery, costumes and sets that spellbinds. Fascinating historic background. The utterly perfect Claudia Cardinale. The proud performance of Burt Lancaster. The Downs: Slow-moving. Sometimes almost deadly slow. "

Translations: Italian Films with US Adapted Titles (13 movies items)

"English title: The Leopard. Original Italian title: Il gattopardo. Literally, it refers to some big cats similar to the leopard, like the ocelot and other big cats. More importantly, after the success of the movie and of the novel the film is based on, "gattopardo" is used in a figurative sense, meaning someone who seemingly adapts to new circumstances... in order to stay in power anyway, like the noble in the story. "In order for everything to stay the same, everything must change" is a key q"
