A very good movie

To be honest, before watching this movie, I didn't even know 'The Band' but I did know Martin Scorsese and it was a good enough reason for me to check this flick. For years, I had heard that it was the best concert movie ever made and after watching it, I must say indeed that he does deserve its reputation (I think 'Woodstock' is even better but it is more a festival than an actual concert). Description: Thanksgiving, 1976, San Francisco's Winterland: the Band performs its last concert after 16 years on the road. Some numbers they do alone, some songs include guest artists from Ronnie Hawkins (their first boss, when they were the Hawks) to Bob Dylan (their last, when as his backup and as a solo group, they came into their own). Scorsese's camera explores the interactions onstage in the making of music. Offstage, he interviews the Band's five members, focusing on the nature of life on the road. The friendships, the harmonies, the hijinks, and the wear and tear add up to a last waltz. Watch online at Viooz: [Link removed - log ... (more)

Movie Reviews (951-1000) (50 movies items)

" It is a great concert, especially for fans of folk rock, blues or country music with a great band and their unique guests. It has great photography and is necessary for all addicts of Martin Scorsese's directorial output. Sad to say that the interview segments between songs doesn't give any depth or feel of being particularly necessary. They are nice moments, but not much else. "
