I really enjoyed this film. A lot of people I know resent the extremely Hollywood ending and I can appreciate that, but up until the final battle I was thoroughly engrossed. This film totally changed my opinion of Tom Cruise and I actually left the cinema thinking very highly of him.

However, the real star of this show, for me, was Ken Watanbe. What a talent! Seeing Algren complete... read more

I've decided to review of all of movies of Tom Cruise that I've seen-- which I guess is actually only three: The Last Samurai, Valkyrie, and Minority Report.... And if I had to rank them, I guess that that would be the order that I would put them in, yeah-- just because I'm thinking of the guy. And.... Why could that be? (Seriously, though, this is nothing against Katie Holmes: I just like to keep... read more

BradWesley123's Movie Journal- February 2015 (34 movies items)

" DVD- 2hrs. 34min. First Viewing The Last Samurai is a big, old-school Hollywood epic that works largely do to the film's scope and beautiful visuals. We've seen this story done a thousand times before; a white man is taken in by a foreign group and becomes one of their own, and a moral man. The cast is pretty good though, especially Wantanabe, and the movie is suitably thrilling. A strong story might've made this more than just a solid feature but, as is, it's a solid movie."
