Nodachi samurai

I really enjoyed this film. A lot of people I know resent the extremely Hollywood ending and I can appreciate that, but up until the final battle I was thoroughly engrossed. This film totally changed my opinion of Tom Cruise and I actually left the cinema thinking very highly of him.

I've decided to review of all of movies of Tom Cruise that I've seen-- which I guess is actually only three: The Last Samurai, Valkyrie, and Minority Report.... And if I had to rank them, I guess that that would be the order that I would put them in, yeah-- just because I'm thinking of the guy. And.... Why could that be? (Seriously, though, this is nothing against Katie Holmes: I just like to keep... read more

I already saw this movie but since it was a while back and since I had it on DVD, I thought I might as well check it out again. Well, the first thing I noticed while re-watching the damned thing was that it was actually pretty much 'Dances with Wolves' in Japan. As a result, they made a similar mistake which was that, in 'Dances with Wolves', Kevin Costner actually became a better Indian than the ... read more

“I already saw this movie but since it was a while back and since I had it on DVD, I thought I might as well check it out again. Well, the first thing I noticed while re-watching the damned thing was that it was actually pretty much 'Dances with Wolves' in Japan. As a result, they made a similar mistake which was that, in 'Dances with Wolves', Kevin Costner actually became a better Indian than the Indians themselves and, here, Tom Cruise pretty much mastered the art of being a samurai in a few months when it would take an actual samurai years to reach this level. Another thing that bothered me was that they never clearly explained why there was actually some rebellion in Japan at the time. Finally, even though it was interesting that the main character was suffering of PTSD, it didn't reall” read more

35 From 3: My Favorite Films From 2003 (35 movies items)

" The main reason I like this movie is because it's alot like Dances With Wolves. Except, instead of wolves, it's with a buncha samurais. And instead the ol' West, it's the ol' East. Of course. Sword infested back-in-the-day Feudal Japan versus the machine-gun laden power of the New World."
