Among the best Scorsese has to offer

In this 1982 film directed by Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, known for his roles in a few other Scorsese flicks, enters once again as middle aged-wannabe comedian Rupert Pupkin. The De Niro/Scorsese collaboration happens to be one of the greatest film teams of all-time, and easily one of my personal favorites. Together, they can do magical things, as portrayed for nearly 40 years, and beginning ... read more

Scorsese goes comedy...

Despite that this film is a comedy from the master of gangster/crime films Martin Scorsese, I knew I was going to like this one it is a collaboration with Scorsese and De Niro. Also, Scorsese would have at least made a clever comedy. This film does have that rebel/crime within it because Rupert Pupkin is a stand up comedian and a bit of a criminal too. The King Of Comedy is actually the nickname o... read more

A very good movie

When is the last time you saw a good movie starring Robert De Niro? I keep watching most of his new movies but most of it is just crap and after all this disappointment, it was time to rewatch a good old flick to redeem the guy. Among all the masterpieces De Niro and Scorsese made together, it is one of the least appreciated ones and it was a flop when it came out which is not really surprising. I... read more

Rupert Pupkin is obsessed with becoming a comedy great. However, when he confronts his idol, talk show host Jerry Langford, with a plea to perform on the Jerry's show, he is only given the run-around. He does not give up, however, but persists in stalking Jerry until he gets what he wants. Eventually he must team up with his psychotic Langford-obsessed friend Masha to kidnap the talk show host in hopes of finally getting to perform his stand-up routine.

1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die (1980's) (153 movies items)

" Notes: Among all the masterpieces Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese made together, it is one of the least appreciated ones and it was a flop when it came out which is not really surprising. Indeed, it is a comedy but the whole thing is just so dark, so sardonic, it can't be compared to your average commercial comedic feature. That's probably why I enjoyed it whereas I usually don't care much about comedies. Once again, the directing was really awesome with here and there some pacing issues bu"

PopMatter's Essential Film Performances - 2013 (50 movies items)

"Jerry Lewis The King of Comedy was a redemption for Jerry Lewis precisely when one seemed least likely. His previous film, 1981’s Hardly Working, coming shortly after Lewis’s personal bankruptcy and a dormant artistic period, had been billed as Lewis’s comeback, but, although the film made money, it was critically demolished, the weak slapstick routines from the then 55-year-old Lewis an embarrassing reminder of a style and heyday irrevocably gone-by. Along came Martin Scorsese two years l"
