Good film but not one of Kubrick's best...

The Killing is a film that has a very dark story and is a story with a very slow dialogue. It starts off really slowly within the first 30 minutes at least and then it just suddenly starts all over again. To be perfectly honest, I thought this film was rather thrilling and was quite impactful but I don't really refer it as a classic crime film as I don't as a classic Kubrick film.

Very nicely paced and set-up for 9/10s of the film. The scheming and characterizations are spot on and make this film a joy to watch. For the ending, however, Kubrick really has to jump through some ridiculous hoops and awkward set-ups to make it happen. It doesn't unglue the rest of the film but it certainly makes it so that the corners are peeling up a bit in the end.

" I'm sure there are plenty of people out there that will argue that The Killing is a Great Film. Personally, it never quite got there for me. It's a solid movie though, with memorable characters, and a story that kept me involved. I really enjoyed the movie, but I do think that there are examples of both Kubrick films and Film Noir titles out there that are every bit as good or better. "04.04. DVD, 1st viewing DIRECTED BY Stanley Kubrick Interesting to see a basic film noir from a director who became a lot more original later in his career. Not that The Killing is bad, it's an entertaining and well-written heist film with really good cinematography (check especially George's POV shot near the end). So far it's still my least favorite Kubrick, probably, which goes to show what a brilliant director he was. "
