The Imitation Game

The term “prestige film” isn’t inherently a bad thing. The concept of a film made to appeal to a broad adult audience – not the worst thing imaginable. It’s just when those films condescend to the audience, downplay the realities, and present the material in as ham-fisted a manner as possible that it becomes an issue.

Behold, The Imitation Game, a film that gives the impre... read more

As the film announces at the start, it based on a true story. The essentials are true, and to get so much history into a film things have to be condensed. Unfortunately unnecessarily inaccurate things were portrayed which didn't save any time. For example, Turing mutters under his breath so most audiences will not notice, t... read more

I have been interested since I saw the trailer for this. I think Benedict Cumberbatch is an amazing actor. Here he leads an amazing cast of well known British actors. Alan Turing's behavior kind of reminds me of similarities with Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook. It seems a lot of people who are quite intelligent usually have problems socially as I've personally encountered. Although I'm far from treat... read more

My Top 10 Favourite Movies of 2014 (10 movies items)

"If any movie this year was right up my street, it was this one! :) It's a biopic of Alan Turing, who developed the first prototypical computer to decode Nazi communications in World War II. The film as a whole is endlessly compelling and exciting, and even manages to pack some truly devastating emotional punches. But of course, it's Benedict Cumberbatch who steals the show. The movie portrays Turing as autistic, and, speaking as someone on the spectrum myself, Cumberbatch's performance is pitch-"

Movie Reviews (1751-1800) (50 movies items)

" Drama about the man who lead the breaking of the Enigma code is an usung story as his role was stacked away since he was gay. It is an intelligent written and directed movie and has also big historic relevance as it is based upon true events during WW2. Benedict C. do a gripping performance, but the movie seem to forget a little that there was a huge team that solved the code and not just one man which this film seemingly point out. "

Movies the giraffe watched in 2017: March (55 movies items)

"First viewing - March 13th I wound up staying home from work on this day after spraining my right ankle the night before, so I figured I'd get a couple of movies watched. I picked this one out to watch between breakfast & lunch, and I found it quite compelling. As WWII films go I also found it refreshing as it's focused on using intelligence over violence to fight the battles while also telling a story I never felt like I'd heard a million times already. The acting is stellar and I liked the ch"
