Who knew Dennis Hopper could direct a film so competently? Well after seeing Easy Rider I had an inkling, but The Hot Spot is a slicker, cleaner derivative of the Hopper formula (crazy people doing crazy shit).
I've seen countless neo noirs, including overrated ones like L.A. Confidential, and The Hot Spot stands out from the usual baloney. Deservedly so, cuz it's a satisfyingly lewd piece of cinematic art.

Basically, it is a nice neo-film noir with the intrigues, the sexually loaded atmosphere, the femme(s) fatale, the backstabbings and the usual twists. Of course, the plot was rather messy and far-fetched but it is inherent to the genre and even though the whole thing was not really original, I really enjoyed it.
