Warning: This might be more rambling, than an actual coherent review.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is that difficult second film in this trilogy. It's difficult in the sense that it has to improve on what, in many peoples eyes (not mine), was a quite disappointing first feature. But it's also difficult because we're going to go into this film knowing that it doesn't have a pr... read more

The genre of fantasy fiction has always been and will forever remain my favorite among all of literature's offerings. No other genre offers such an endless vista for the exploration of imagination as there are, literally, no boundaries whatsoever. The only limits are those of the imagination of the writer. Many view the creation of Middle-Earth and the tales of J. R. R. Tolkien among the finest ev... read more

Buying a ticket to see The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, is essentially the same as buying a ticket to Middle-Earth. You are transported to a stunning world of dwarves, dragons, and elves, where there are beautiful forests, enchanting treasure troves, and perilous mountains. For 160 minutes, you are in an entirely different place. There are many problems with this film, but I think the trade... read more

Movie Reviews (1001-1050) (50 movies items)

" The second movie in "The Hobbit" trilogy is faster and better than in the first. It enhances the story and I liked the added romantic elf/dwarf subplot as it give some necessary added feelings and humor into the film. The dragon is also finally revealed and it looks fantastic and has the powerful voice of Benedict Chamberbatch. I also like that this film finally expands the universe and give us a few new places we haven't seen before as the first one seemed to only go to the same places we sa"

"2014/12/17 @home on Blueray Good, but some parts were incomprehensible. Where are you going, Gandelf? Why? And, do you not recall telling the dwarves to wait for you? I think it might have been explained, but if it was I missed it. And, ending in the middle has always annoyed me. I thought it was bullshit in the Lord of the Rings movies and I still feel it is bullshit. I'm glad I watched the day before planning on going to see the final part."

Interesting film facts (453 movies items)

"The only time Legolas blinks is when he realizes he has been wounded. This is in keeping with the character, as the only time Legolas blinks in the Lord of the Rings trilogy is when he is strongly surprised. The fish that were dumped into the barrels to hide Bilbo and the dwarves were real fish with a few rubber props mixed in. At one point Adam Brown (Ori) had as much as 400 pounds of fish dumped directly on him. Brown hates fish and had to fight his own phobia while buried in them in the barr"

" LAST WATCHED: 1/1/2017     COMMENTS: It's not my favorite scene, but I laughed when Legolas insulted the photo of Gimli, Gloin's son. I was put in mind of how strong their bond of friendship becomes by the end of the LOTR trilogy. For some reason, the casting of Evangeline Lily as Tauriel always bothered me; I can't say why, but I just didn't think she was the best for the role, albeit, she played it well.GRADESACTING: ASTORY/PLOT: ASOUNDTRACK: ASET/COSTUME DESIGN: AENTERTAINME"
