"I haven't seen Berlin yet, from the ground or from the air, and I plan on doing both before the war is over."

John Sturges' The Great Escape is debatably the greatest World War II adventure film in cinematic history. Multitudes of film buffs will collectively agree that Sturges' classic action/adventure masterpiece is highly deserving of its reputation, everlasting acclaim and endl... read more

When I first saw this film which was a couple of years ago, I absolutely loved it but after revisiting it, I still really liked it a lot! It is a very entertaining film that is adventurous, quite funny and very intense especially during the escape attempts and when some of the prisoners become fugitives. There is one minor fault I have with this film was that I think it could have been about 20 mi... read more

You'll laugh, you'll cry, this movie will stick with you. What more can be said about a classic movie?
The Great Escape is funny and serious in good proportion. It has definitely aged well, being just as interesting, entertaining and relevant to modern audiences as it was the year it was released. I firmly believe that everyone should see this movie. Everyone.

"Watched: 1/27-28/14 2nd Viewing This is still as great and as much fun the second time around. I just can't stress enough how much I adore this movie. The entire cast gels together to perfection, and there isn't one scene that goes to waste. They are all packed with something. One of the best adventure, comedy, thriller, dramas (?), That I've had the experience of seeing. It's just a blast to watch. Simple as that. 10/10"

""Inspired by real-life events, it tells the story of prisoners in World War II trying to escape from a Nazi prison camp. Their plan is to dig tunnels from inside their prisons and dispose of the dirt outside the camp." Bartlett: How do you breathe? Hilts: Oh, we got a steel rod with hinges on it and we shove it up and make air holes as we go along. Goodnight, sir. "The movie works so well because you really want to see these guys get out and it's not easy for them at all." Sedgwick: Danny, do"

“It has aged. Heroism is above all other feelings of the POWs, and I mena homesickness, despite of war, fear of pain. I can´t stand McQueen going on and on to the 'cooler'. But Sturges is vibrant in all kinf of pieces of action, and managing a lot of stories. At least, It has not a happy ending.

A classic

“Since it is such a huge classic, of course, I was really eager to check this flick. To be honest, even though I did like it, I didn’t really blow me away though. It is something rather common with a classic like this one, you hear about it for many years, you build up some huge expectations but, somehow, those expectations are not always fulfilled. I guess I should give it a second shot at some point. Still, even though it was slightly disappointing, it remains a really solid and entertaining WWII feature, absolutely. First of all, you had a great cast (Steve McQueen, James Garner, Richard Attenborough, Charles Bronson, Donald Pleasence, James Coburn) and they all delivered some solid performances, especially Steve McQueen who was at the top of his game at the time. So, it was a fun movi” read more
