Knowing Emily Blunt, Steve Zahn and John Malkovich were in this film..It must be seen by mis ojos. I bought it for a cent, so I figured it mustn't be popular and I was curious to see what it was about. The idea of the film is quite nice and entertaining. It didn't pan out as I hoped, but it succeeded in captivating my interest. IT wasn't very comical, more on the lines of an interesting, fictional... read more
I really like John Malkovitch and he is pretty good in this movie and Emily Blunt was just so charming as usual but I was not so convinced about Colin Hanks who seems to miss his father charisman. Eventually, this movie had some potential but it failed to really impress since the story was just not interesting enough.

His mind-boggling feats as a mentalist extraordinaire - not to be confused with those of a mere magician - earned him a marquee act in Vegas and 61 appearances on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show. In his own humble opinion, his talents go far beyond simple sleight of hand - he can read minds and hypnotize not just a single soul but an entire room of people! But nowadays, it’s clear to everyone but Buck that his act has lost its luster; he performs in faded community centers and hasn’t sold out a theater in years. Yet, with a hearty handshake and a trademark “I love this town!,” Buck Howard perseveres, confident in his own celebrity, convinced his comeback is imminent. He just needs a new road manager and personal assistant. As it turns out, recent law school drop-out and unemployed, would-be writer Troy Gable (Colin Hanks) needs a job and a purpose. Working for the pompous, has-been mentalist fills the former requirement, but how it satisfies the latter is questionable, especially to his father (Tom Hanks), who still assumes Troy is in law school. Nonetheless, with the aid of a fiery publicist (Emily Blunt) and a bold stroke of fate, Buck surprisingly lands back into the American consciousness, taking Troy along for the ride of his life. As the coveted spotlight again shines on the great Buck Howard, Buck becomes the unlikeliest of teachers as Troy learns a few tricks he couldn’t possibly have picked up in law school.... (more)(less)

IT wasn't very comical, more on the lines of an interesting, fictional biography..so to speak about this mentalist Buck Howard. Malkovich was very convincing and it wasn't a role in which you think "I've seen this a million times..lame". Emily Blunt's role should have been more prominent, nonetheless, I enjoyed every second. Overall the story is satisfying and makes you feel for Buck Howard. I'd consider this towards a Disney style film hahaa.

“The Great Buck Howard is a perfect example of how it actually is possible to do a good job handling lightweight fare that's aimed mostly at adults. Most films that attempt to do this sink themselves in staleness and predictability, but every once in a while we get a movie that is pleasant and refreshing without insulting its audience's intelligence, and that's exactly what we get here. While not a groundbreaking film, The Great Buck Howard is engrossing from start to finish, and it avoids the pitfalls of corniness and manipulation, which other films of its kind would normally fall into.
Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks and his real-life son Colin Hanks play father and son in the film, though the older actor is in the film for a only a short amount of time, while his son plays Troy G” read more

"
I liked this movie. John Malkovich was perfect in the role as Buck Howard. Steve Zahn, who im usually not a big fan of was also good in this. Colin Hanks on the other hand was not very good. He is far from as talented as his father, who had way to little to do in this. Maybe he will get better by the years like Tom, but he was just boring to watch here. If not for John Malkovich this would have been far from a 7."
