"The Fall" is a lush fantasy that combines the elements of period costume drama, surrealist art film, and swashbuckling adventure to dazzling effect. It is gorgeous, yes, but the beauty proves to be more than just visual as it also delivers a beautiful story with touching performances, particularly from one little girl actor, Catinca Untaru, as the emotional center of the film, Alexandria.

Great Adventure and Wonderful Story

Now one of my favorites, this gem really touched me. The imagery is mouth-wateringly beautiful and the story hits you in the heart. Sensitive and vulnerable characters and scenes that are seriously adventurous and imaginitive. A lot of effort and sweat went into making this film - all on location and all genuine action. The little girl may have gone through a tough time doing her first movie, but... read more

A good movie

This is what I call a very intriguing movie. Since I heard from here and there that it was quite amazing and since Tarsem Singh's previous movie was just so striking visually, my expectations were thus very high. First of all, even though it wasn't as gorgeous as I expected it to be, there were still some very amazing shots here. Then, the story was indeed really intriguing but I couldn't get capt... read more

In a hospital on the outskirts of 1920s Los Angeles, an injured stuntman begins to tell a fellow patient, a little girl with a broken arm, a fantastical story about 5 mythical heroes. Thanks to his fractured state of mind and her vivid imagination, the line between fiction and reality starts to blur as the tale advances.

It is gorgeous, yes, but the beauty proves to be more than just visual as it also delivers a beautiful story with touching performances, particularly from one little girl actor, Catinca Untaru, as the emotional center of the film, Alexandria.

The first thread of the story is set in a 1920's Los Angeles hospital, where 5-year-old immigrant Alexandria (Untaru) is being treated from a broken arm she suffered falling from an orange tree. Bored and reduced to throwing oranges at the priest (Grant Swanby) for entertainment, she is intrigued when she meets despondent stuntsman Roy, who is willing to entertain her with stories of adventure ” read more

Movie Diary 2013 (186 movies items)

"27.4. Ymmärrän kyllä, jos tällainen varsin lapsekas tarinointi ei joihinkin uppoa ja jos näyttävät fantasiaosiot saavat muun filmin tuntumaan keskinkertaiselta. The Fallin illuusio tanssahtelee koko ajan ohuen nuoran päällä syvän kuilun yllä, pienikin virheliike saattaisi helposti vesittää kaiken aiemmin koetun. Onkin huojentavaa, ettei kohtalokasta pudotusta pilailun syövereihin tapahdu. Stuntissa loukkaantunut nuori mies satuilee häntä tapaavalle touhukkaalle toipilaalle pikk"

" This films is incredibly beautiful and certainly have a greater appreciation for Tarsem Singh. I spent half the film on the edge of my seat and the other half crying. I would easily watch this film again but might be timid to recommend given the subject matter."

Mack's Movies 2013: February (19 movies items)

" February 8th: IW computer screen Overall opinion: Perfect So glad I watched this without knowing at all what it was about. Every second was a pleasant surprise and I can't begin to tell how much I enjoyed it. It was visually beautiful, one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. Both stories in the movie had me hooked, and with every scene change I was sad to leave one story behind and excited to go back to the other at the same time. The acting was excellent and Catinca Untaru as Alexa"
