For the ultimate paradigmatic definition of a cult classic horror movie, one should simply behold the unforgettable ultra-low-budget Sam Raimi flick The Evil Dead. Back in 1979, Raimi and a cheery g... read more

Great movie on a low budget. All three Evil Dead movies are a good example of what you can do with a great director like Raimi and acting talent like Bruce Campbell.

Sam Raimi Films - Ranked (14 movies items)

" The Evil Dead is a glorious mix of horror and comedy. With a beautiful mix of gore and violence together with Raimi's inventive filmmaking, this film is an absolute feast. He understands that watching films is about having fun, and in here, fun is absolutely allowed."

"Don't read it. No good, has ever come from reading a cursed book. Especially, if the word "Dead" appears in the title."

"13.5. Netflix Uusintakatselu. Useiden katselujen, mutta vuosikymmenen tauon jälkeen edelleen armoton. Hurjat kamera-ajot, oudot lattiatasokuvakulmat ja nopeudessaan lähes ahdistavat leikkaukset tuovat saatanallisen tunnelman hermostuttavan tehokkaasti näköjään myös suht valoisaan olohuoneeseen. Innovatiivisuus kameratyössä ja hyökkäävässä editoinnissa antaa näyttelytyön täysin anteeksi."

A classic

“Of course, I already saw this movie but since it was ages ago, maybe 20 years ago, I was really eager to check it out again. Obviously, it has become since then a major cult-classic but, to be honest, even though I did like it, I have never been a really huge fan and, to be honest, this re-watch didn't change my mind. I mean, sure, I have to admit it, it is definitely a fun horror-comedy, no doubt about it, but, at the end of the day, I think it was above all a cheap flick that Sam Raimi made at the time to start up his career. Eventually, after all these years, if you look back at his legacy, it still is pretty much his most acclaimed directing effort which is, at the same time, pretty neat but also pretty sad, when you think about it. Since then, they have recently released a remake whic” read more

500 Essential Cult Movies (502 movies items)

" Any fan of Sam Raimi's work will find the genesis of his directing style here; unique shots he created to work wthin the limited budget have appeared in most of his films since. Evil Dead is mind-bendingly gross; even beyond the infamous "tree rape" scene, the sheer amount of physical abuse Campbell takes as the lead is both cringeworthy and hilarious. As one of the classic cult films of the horror genre, Evil Dead is a must-see. "

"LAST WATCHED: 12/22/2016COMMENTS: The only NC-17 movie in my collection. I love the combination of comedy and horror, which says a lot, because I normally don't care for black comedy. The only other exposure I'd had to Bruce Campbell's acting was as Autolycus from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, so it was incredibly refreshing to see a younger him in such a fun role in this movie. The makeup effects were absolutely stunning and some of the creepiest I've ever seen in horror movies. It's funny "
