Brilliant plot for a film, with superb execution, and the dream sequences are pretty much the funniest things ever

Radically funny black comedy about three upper-class couples whose dinner engagements are always interrupted by some unusual incident. Winner of the year’s Best Foreign Film, it exercised a seemingly metaphoric approach and employed some of Buñuel’s trademark surreal transgressions, the real charm being the hilarious parts in the form of dreams. A scene of them walking along a highway may even suggest they’ve already gone into the afterlife and living their lives again. Some 40 years after “Un Chien Andalou,” Buñuel was still in top form with this masterful film which also benefited from a wonderful cast.
