Decameron on episodielokuva, joka vetää aikamoisella sarjatulella läpi tarinansa, turhia kyselemättä tai pysähtymättä ja tarinat ovat sen verta hauskoja ja kiinnostavia, että ratkaisu toimii. Liikutaan nimittäin seksin ja uskonnon tutussa ja turvallisessa maailmassa. Pasolinin antologiaelokuvassa yhdeksän Decameronen tarinaa on lyöty yhteen. Pääasiassa aiheet pyörivät seksin ja komediallisuuden ympärillä, tietynlaisesta veijarimeiningistä on siis kyse, vaikka yksi traagisempikin tarina on päässyt mukaan. Mitään varsinaisesti yhtenäistä linjaa teoksessa ei ole, vaikka jonkinlaisena sitovana tarinana voidaan pitää inspiraatiota odottavan kirkkomaalarin toimintaa, jota kuvataan lyhyissä pätkissä muutamien tarinoiden välissä"
