The Cable Guy review
A chronically underrated film in my humble opinion. Jim Carrey flexes the darker side of his comic persona as The Cable Guy who hooks up Matthew Broderick's character with free cable. Believing the illegal cable deal ignited a strong friendship between the two, he seeks to spend more time with Broderick, who at first welcomes him as a friend. Carrey's behaviour becomes increasingly erratic as the film progresses, however, until he is told to leave his client alone. This transforms The Cable Guy into an eerie stalker as Carrey sets out to ruin the life of his former friend who, in turn, discovers that there was more to Carrey's character and persona than it first seems. I think maybe people don't like seeing Carrey as the bad guy, but he still gives a really impressive performance throughout the entire film. There are subtle undertones about the relevance and importance of television in society that seemingly go unnoticed if the films average rating is anything to go by. Definitely worth a watch. 1 comments, Reply to this entry
