I recommend just watching this for the experience. What was surely considered to be a scary movie back in the 1950's is in this day and age quite amusing but nevertheless still very entertaining. It may have been predictable but the acting was pretty good even if the teenagers were played by full grown adults (Steve McQueen's character looked the same age as the police officers) and some of the em... read more

Hooray for this. 50s drive in film makers had come up with all sorts of stupid ideas for people to half ignore while they make out. Things like teenage warewolves, coccaine fiends and a myriad of genetic mutations courtesy of the a-bomb. They must have been out of ideas. What do we do now? A mysterious creature from another planet, resembling a giant blob of jelly, lands on earth. The people of a nearby small town refuse to listen to some teenagers who have witnessed the blob's destructive power. In the meantime, the blob just keeps on getting bigger.

" The Ups: Charming old-fashioned monster movie that became the one everyone copied for years afterwards. Fun practical effects. Great ending especially in these "The Northpole is melting" crisis - What will happen then??? The Downs: Predictable since all the cliches comes from this one. Terrible boring acting where even the great Steve McQueen is miscast. Scenes that go on for far too long."

"October 6 This wasn't as good as I was hoping it to be. The main problem with this film is the dialogue. It's just bland and uninspired. The special effects were good for its time and the blob scenes were cool, but the characters aren't that interesting. Steve McQueen's performance was better than all the other actors although I know this isn't the best performance of is career."
