Movies were so cute back then

I recommend just watching this for the experience. What was surely considered to be a scary movie back in the 1950's is in this day and age quite amusing but nevertheless still very entertaining. It may have been predictable but the acting was pretty good even if the teenagers were played by full grown adults (Steve McQueen's character looked the same age as the police officers) and some of the em... read more

Hooray for this. 50s drive in film makers had come up with all sorts of stupid ideas for people to half ignore while they make out. Things like teenage warewolves, coccaine fiends and a myriad of genetic mutations courtesy of the a-bomb. They must have been out of ideas. What do we do now? How about a green thing what looks like a giant booger and sort of grows and grows and terrorizes some town. ... read more

A mysterious creature from another planet, resembling a giant blob of jelly, lands on earth. The people of a nearby small town refuse to listen to some teenagers who have witnessed the blob's destructive power. In the meantime, the blob just keeps on getting bigger.

100 favorite horror films (100 movies items)

""How do you get people to protect themselves from something they don't believe in?" I absolutely adore The Blob. This film breaks away from the standard B-movie formula and takes two of the exploitation genres that were so popular during the era, the juvenile delinquent film and the monster on the loose film, and blends them together. All of the characters are extremely likable and ground a film that would otherwise be completely ridiculous. The blob itself is a scarier monster than one wou"

WatchMojo's Top 10 Horror Movies Inspired By True (10 movies items)

"True Event: In 1950 in Pennsylvania, two veteran police officers saw something fall from the sky. They described it as a "large, glittering mass drifting to earth," and when they found the landing spot in a field, they discovered a "quivering purple mound of jelly" that glittered in the light of their flashlights. It seemed to pulsate on its own, and when the cops turned off their flashlights, the mass seemed to glow on its own. For fear that no one would believe them, the cops radioed for back"

"Day 2: One of your earliest encounters with the horror genre The Blob The Blob is the first horror movie I remember watching and liking as a kid, and it remains one of my favorite horror movies to this day, I haven't seen the remake, but doubt it will match the fun of this B horror film classic - it even had its own song."

My Brilliant and Witty 2013 Movie Diary (203 movies items)

" Not gonna lie, this is a pretty terrible movie. I give the movie a crappy 4 stars, plus two extra for Steve McQueen's smile. LOOK at this face: Could you rate a movie with a face like that in it lower than a 6? Well I surely cannot! Basically, The Blob is a bad 50s schlock-horror piece of shit, with a few amusing moments here and there, notable only for being one of Steve McCutie's first starring roles. The special effects are horribly dated, and the moments that are supposed to induce "

Movie Reviews (part 7) (50 movies items)

" The Ups: Charming old-fashioned monster movie that became the one everyone copied for years afterwards. Fun practical effects. Great ending especially in these "The Northpole is melting" crisis - What will happen then??? The Downs: Predictable since all the cliches comes from this one. Terrible boring acting where even the great Steve McQueen is miscast. Scenes that go on for far too long."
