"1/26/13 An interesting piece, methodically paced and moody, altogether different than what I have seen from Clooney before. He plays an assassin hiding out in Italy and working one last job before retiring. Not surprisingly, romantic entanglements ensue but it fits. Director Anton Corbijn impressed me enough with this that I now wish to see more of his work."

And, wow, what a moron I was to think that a film called "The American" with George Clooney was going to be a comedy. That illusion was more or less shattered by the time the opening credits rolled....

And, yes, corpses are incompatible with comedy, in my book.

"It was okay but not really suspenseful. I wanted to watch it because I've heard that the ending is stupid and I thought if some guys think it's poor maybe I can like it. Yeah but I think the ending was just like everything else. Not outstanding but also not a total waste of time."
