Martin, the new man in Christine's life proposes marriage and, after some gentle knudging from her sister, Janet, Christine accepts the proposal, but soon begins to doubt her decision, when she hears Paul's voice calling to her from the rolling surf near her beachside home. When the strange and mysterious Alexis enters her life, identifying himself as a spiritualist and seeming to know much more about Christine than is possible, he causes her to have further doubts about whether or not her husband rests easy in his grave.
