You know, for the first movie that Rick Moranis, or Dave Thomas for that matter, have ever done, it's really good. Anybody who appreciates art would recognize this as the SCTV version of Shakespeare's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, which is basically another version of Hamlet. The plot has a lot of meat to it for a comedy, and the comedy itself is so funny that I laugh like a hyena at almo... read more

" While this movie is pretty well-known in Canada, I still think it's overlooked and it's probably one of the funniest movies to come from Canada."

Interesting film facts (389 movies items)

"The name of the brewery in this film is Elsinore Brewery. Max von Sydow, who played the Brewmeister in this movie, was also in the film The Seventh Seal (1957). In that film he and his squire were heading towards the village of Elsinore, but decided not to because the plague was there. At one point, Bob says, "He saw Jedi 17 times, eh!" What isn't obvious now, is that Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983) opened in May 1983, while production of "Strange Brew" had wrapped five m"

"August 16 "My brother and I used to say that drownin' in beer was like heaven, eh? Now he's not here, and I've got two soakers... this isn't heaven. This sucks!" As a Canadian, I thought this movie was hilarious. During the beginning of the movie I thought that there wasn't going to be much of a plot, but there was more of a plot than I could've imagined. This is much better than that stupid cartoon show based on these characters."

“You know, for the first movie that Rick Moranis, or Dave Thomas for that matter, have ever done, it's really good. Anybody who appreciates art would recognize this as the SCTV version of Shakespeare's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, which is basically another version of Hamlet. The plot has a lot of meat to it for a comedy, and the comedy itself is so funny that I laugh like a hyena at almost every scene ("Two bowls of split plea soup to go."). I highly recommend this to Rick's fans, SCTV fans, and comedy buffs in general.

"Rating: PG Run Time: 1 hour, 30 minutes Genres: Comedy Summary: Canada's most famous hosers, Bob and Doug McKenzie, get jobs at the Elsinore Brewery, only to learn that something is rotten with the state of it. My opinion: For the first movie that Rick Moranis has ever done, it's actually quite good. I laugh at almost every scene in this movie."
