Terminator Castration is more like it...

Posted : 4 hours, 46 minutes ago at Nov 7 23:15
"This is John Connor. If you are listening to this, you are the resistance." The year is 2018, the sky is ashen, machines rule the world, and the only humans which remain (who've undergone a humour bypass) constitute "The Resistance". That's the simplified synopsis of the fourth instalment in the Terminator franchise; a dull, predictable, bloated exercise in CGI overload which could easily be mistaken for a Transformers sequel. While the previous three films offered glimpses into the devastated futureworld dominated by the self-aware SkyNet, Terminator Salvation is the first sequel to be set entirely in that future, which provides the series with a new look. It's a shame, then, that it's merely another trembling step backwards for the franchise, and an appalling buttfucking of a once-gr...Read more

Typical For These Times

I've long been a fan of the Terminator films so I went into this one pretty excited for the next chapter in the John Connor saga. What I got (and should have expected) was a movie with little regard for story and only concerned with non-stop action and shooting, but JUST enough so that it secures the PG-13 rating to get in all the 14-17 year old boys who undoubtedly lined up outside the theatres excited about the older movies their big brothers told them about. I guess that's why producers got an action and music video director instead of a real director who would focus more on story than on how many T-800 bodies pile up on screen. At least he had the marketing know-how to stick in that old Guns N' Roses song from the second movie for no apparent reason.

A big disappointment in PG-13

Posted : 3 months ago at Aug 8 13:15
I'm not kidding, this is one of the biggest movie disappointments i have ever seen. What we have here is a war movie set in the Terminator universe. A popcorn/war movie without any battle scenes in PG-13... If You've seen previous Terminator movies, i'm sure that You'll remember how war set in the future should look like. It was dark and horrifying. When i first saw T1/2 i was really afraid of the future. Cameroon did really great job doing this, becouse in 5 minute fragment he achieved something, that McG didn't achieve in 2 hour movie. In Terminator: Salvation we have no fear, world is not so bad (human resistance has airplanes, submarine, a lot of military equipment) and sexy pilot chick's have always a great makeup. In this world the "big, bad computer" Skynet "lives" in...Read more

A new dawn.

''We've been fighting a long time. We are out numbered by machines. Working around the clock, without quit. Humans have a strength that cannot be measured. This is John Connor. If you are listening to this, you are the resistance.'' After Skynet has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust, a group of survivors led by John Connor struggles to keep the machines from finishing the job. Christian Bale: John Connor Terminator Salvation blasts off the summer with it's action packed, sci-fi war time apocalypse theme and this time it doesn't even need Arnie magic to be a metallic mesmerizing piece of blockbusting glory. Yes we have Christian Bale hitting another franchise as the main prophet leader John Conner, looking slightly reminiscent of his Machinist days. But we can for...Read more

Load your weapons, and fire, and fire, and fire...

This is just a thrilling movie, with plenty of action during for almost 2 hours, and it lacks of everything that the other movies of the franchise had. It's difficult to consider Terminator Salvation a science-fitcion movie, McG concentrates all of his efforts - and time - in explosions and gun fire. The main problem with the movie comes when it tries to make statements about what "makes us humans" meanwhile we watch the main character pulling a gun trigger all the time. This movie could be considered a military version of Spielberg's War Of The Worlds, although it could seem a weird comparison. Moreover, McG's direction efforts remember quite a lot to Spielberg's.

Decent Summer Flick

Terminator Salvation takes place in 2018 where war between humans and machines is still raging, John Connor's place in the resistance movement is far from certain. The film is gritty, action-packed and highly entertaining but it doesn't have the heart of the first Terminator and even T2: Judgement Day. The landscape presented for this future is mind-blowing. Highways turned to deserts, barren cities with broken down buildings - totally a civilization turned to ruins. But at the same time there were some continuity problems - like how well-equipped the resistance are, or how a small band of survivors manage to have a pristine band-aid and but very little food. The movie also walks a fine line between continuing a character's arc and ripping off iconic scenes. Yes, the famous lin...Read more

Review

These aren't my original ideas, but the person who expressed them to me will not be sharing them anywhere else online. I thought it was a somewhat solid commentary so I wanted to share: The depth of the original is just not there in this fourth installment. It is ironic that James Cameron couldn't afford to make the original Terminator a post-apocalyptic film as he wanted, but because of this the franchise gets most of the allegiance to its mythology. The fear of the future weighs heavy in the original film. That Sarah Connor is the only one who knows the future brings and is the only one who can do anything about it gives the audience a much stronger protagonist than John Conner in the current film who is already in that future with an army of followers who all know what happened in th...Read more
