"I always thought it'd be better to be a fake somebody than a real nobody."

This is really amazing drama film, supported by an fantastic cast and story. It's kind of a mystery thriller as well when you think about it.

Matt Damon is Tom Ripley, one of the most complex and mysterious characters I've ever seen Matt play. In this film Mr. Ripley borrows a Princeton jacket... read more

"I always thought it would be better, to be a fake somebody... than a real nobody."

Patricia Highsmith's novel of the same name was held in high regard in the literary world. Anthony Minghella (R.I.P), celebrated director of The English Patient, has made a terrific psychological thriller out of the already outstanding source material. The Talented Mr. Ripley subsists as a terrifical... read more

This was one of the first Mind Fuck movies I have ever seen, and I suppose that that is a huge reason why it's one of my all time favorites. Even though, let's face it, it is pretty mind boggling, at least that is how I did and still do perceive it. Just the sheer perversion of Matt Damon's character taken into consideration and there you have a fantastic movie. The setting and costumes and editin... read more

A very good movie

“To be honest, , it has been a while since I have seen this flick and I should probably re-watch it at some point. Following his big success with 'The English Patient' , Anthony Minghella came 3 years later with this ambitious project and even though it was not such an overwhelming success like its predecessor, there was still very much to enjoy about the damned thing. First of all, there was a very nice cast composed of up-and-coming young stars (Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Cate Blanchett), plus the always dependable Philip Seymour Hoffman who stole the show everytime he was on the screen. Of course, one of the main attraction in this movie was the main character himself, Tom Ripley, a really fascinating figure, and I thought that Matt Damon, who just had his breakthrough a coup” read more

Film Review of The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)

“Tom Ripley, a poor yet scheming young man unable to maintain a sufficient living in post-World War II New York, completes odd jobs all over town. One day, Ripley agrees to be paid by the rich father of a handsome, womanising party boy, Dickie Greenleaf, a man who thrives on self-indulgent, Bacchanalian living, to travel to Italy for the purpose of attempting to coerce his son to return to the United States. Ripley decides to make an agreement with him, however, once there, he speedily develops an unhealthy infatuation with Greenleaf, eventually paving the way towards brutal murder, before assuming his identity, developing into an ever confusing cat-and-mouse game, trapping Ripley in an endless web of deceit, manipulation, lies and suspicion.

Adapted from Patricia Highsmith's popu” read more

"I've been interested in this movie ever since I saw the TV spots to the movie back in 1999. I thought it was a very well made movie and I had a good time watching it. The acting and story keep me entertain from start to finish. "

"The Talented Mr. Ripley starts off very strongly, but its premise fails to be compelling enough to last its 2.5 hour running time without falling flat at least a little bit. However, its jazz and opera soundtrack is very perfect. "

2012 Movie Diary - July (43 movies items)

"It's a bit messed up. But I love a bit homoerotica and who better to channel that than Matt Damon, one of my imaginary gay husbands. To see him checking out Jude Law made so happy, but to see them fight and to eventually Matt kill Jude with a rowing oar before they got chance to fuck really upset me! I think the best performances were, of course, Matt Damon"
