"Now, then, ladies and gentlemen, do you see this gun? It fires 750 rounds of 9-millimeter ammunition per minute. In other words, if all of you simultaneously were to rush me, not a single one of you would get any closer than you are right now. I do hope I've made myself understood."

The type of gritty, ruthless thriller that could only emerge during the '70s, Joseph Sargent's class... read more

One of those super cool movies from yesterday. Matthau and Shaw are perfectly matched as adversaries who never see each other face to face until the final chapter. Movies like this aren't being made anymore. With it's sharp humor, snappy dialog and gritty action one can understand the influence this flick would have on future film makers like Quentin Tarantino.

Entertaining action/thriller

A remake has come in 2009, with John Travolta & Denzel Washinton, with about the same name. Before I'm gonna see the new version, I made sure I watched the old version, in case it's better, which older version of films (example: The Day the Earth Stood Still) usally am.

The movie got a great set of atmosphere, especially when you think of how they hijacked the train, why they do it ... read more

Movie Reviews (551-600) (50 movies items)

" The Ups: One of the first terrorists-hijack-something movies and it is also one of the more realistic films in it's genre. It has a good premise and the getaway plan is pretty reasonable. Walter Matthau is solid in a "tougher" role for him. It is better than it's glossier remake. The Downs: The tension is a little lost when the film use supporting actors that are most known for their comedic timing and it doesn't help the scenes with a laughable unlikeable mayor. Annoying ending of the type"

"A brilliant taut thriller. Right away, this movie grabs you and doesn't let go. Every actor plays their role remakably and memorably. There's enough suspense to keep you chewing your nails and most of all it has a realistic and engrossing storyline. You will literally be on the edge of your seat, wondering where the next plot twist will take you. It's easy to see where Tarantino got his ideas for the coloured named villains in Reservoir Dogs. 25 From 74: My Favorite Films Of 1974 (25 movies items)

"How do you get the biggest city in the U.S. to pay you a million dollars? Easy. Highjack a subway, make the passengers your hostages & the proceed to murder one for every minute until the Big Apple coughs up the dough. And I'm sure I'm not spoiling it for anyone one out there reading this by pointing out that, if you look at the success ratios that these types of get-rich-quick schemes have had over the years, you can pretty much put one and two together to figure out how this one is gotta play"
