Superman Returns (2006)

I think Bryan Singer’s successes as a filmmaker are a fluke at this point. Superman Returns is a pathetic excuse for a big screen return of, arguably, the most well-known and popular superhero of all time. At times a completely rehash of the previous Donner films and at others a vague sequel. There is not one ounce of life, joy or thrills in the entirely too long film. Superman has never been this glum, dull or out of character. He would never abandon the Earth without telling anyone for such an extended period of time, father an illegitimate child or be as vaguely creepy as he is in several scenes. Superman has indeed returned, better than ever!! At the start of this movie i was thinking "this is going to be a long and boring movie that will seem to go on forever". But i think as soon as Clark Kent was thinking back to his childhood, flying and jumping as superman does, i started to like it. I'm not really much of a superman fan or anything, but i though i might try it because i hadnt seen anything "superman" for ages. This was a great cast for all the roles, expecially Brandon Routh as superman, he just went with the role so well. Oh and Kevin Spacey was also the perfect superman villian. I've seen my share of bad movies - haven't we all? But this was pure disappointment. Due to everything, really... First, the script (how corny and stupid can the dialogues get!?!), the editing (remember the opening scene!), and then, the acting - sorry, Routh does not have Reeves' charm, no one ever will of course, he just doesn't have what it takes to be a 'great' actor. Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor was possibly the only positive aspect of this film.
I'm basing my review on the first hour I watched, and the last 15 minutes - as the rest of the time, my family and I were sleeping through the darn film it was soooo boring.
Here's hoping that the next Superman movie (should there be one) be better!

This was a REALLY good movie. I went to sleep while wacthing it at the end. So I didn't see parts of it. Hey it was 1:00am in the morning! I know...teens tend to stay up late...lol!! But i rate this movie 10/10!!

There was a lot of room for them to mess this movie up. Thankfully, they didn't do so. The actor who plays Superman/Clark Kent is an excellent fit for the role. He keeps the quality that Christopher Reeve brought to the character but makes it his own. Also, Kevin Spacey did an excellent job with Lex Luthor and Parker Posey knocks the bimbo girlfriend role out of the park.

More action would have been a welcome treat. The plot line was sufficient and interesting. In the end, I look forward to another movie. I am giving this one 9 out of 10 for the lack of action promised in the trailer.
