Description

The Sun is being destroyed from inside out by a type of highly stable form of matter that renders nuclear fusion impossible, by turning common matter on its own kind. The only hope is to send a team of astronauts to detonate a massive, highly energetic bomb, able to destroy this strange matter and restore Sun's natural state.

Visually stunning movie with a good premise

Posted : 4 months, 3 weeks ago at Jul 2 17:40
Sunshine isn't something to be marveled by it's plotting and characters nor even the acting, it's all vague and even kinda stupid at times. What is great about this movie is the premise of Sun being on the edge of shutting down, thus killing all the life on Earth, and people trying to re-ignite it with a nuclear weapon. A good idea and highly entertaining. As expected, everything goes terribly wrong and here we go again.

The movies's visuals and sound effects are something else though. They exceed the regular scifi movie level, and Sunshine is beautiful to look at. If you can't appreciate this, you'll certainly be bored and confused. Otherwise it's an experience you probably won't regret.

best movie ever.

This may be my absolute favorite movie.
And even though the mood is apocalyptic it was oddly enough, a very feel-good movie because it was done so well. Be prepared to be taken out of the real world and thrown into this movie because that is really what happened for me. The acting was great. Cillian Murphy was brilliant.
The theme song for Sunshine, played by Leon Sidik, really added a lot to the movie. I was disappointed that a soundtrack hadn't been released.

The sun needs new batteries.

I was expecting a film like 'The Core'. Riddled with inaccuracies and soiled humour. However, this film isn't like that at all and I personally feel it is among the greats of modern sci-fi. Danny Boyle has done some questionable work in the past but I believe this is one of his best films to date. The surrealism alone creates a unique atmosphere for such an alien and impossible concept. The ensemble cast was reminiscent of Alien, where fewer is better. Chris Evans proves his talent as a versatile actor again and I'm hoping he has better things in his future. I think it is safe to say that I'm in love with this film. I always think about watching it and I feel I may be obsessed. These emotions alone have secured it a place in my heart. I may have to re-rate.... I usually hate it...Read more

This is a good film with a delightful premise that kept me interested from the very beginning. I had immediate concerns when I saw the crew of the ship as I assumed they'd all develop obvious character flaws early on that would end in disaster for the mission, but that wasn't so much the case. Their mission is to re-ignite the sun. A simple premise and one that would probably ultimately have succeeded were it not for an unexpected rendez-vous. As well as solid performances, this film was supported by an exceptional soundtrack, which really enhanced the atmosphere (lol) and solitary conditions aboard the ship. The final act was on the confusing side, but I just accepted and enjoyed it, rather than picking holes with it. It's not a perfect film but it's an enjoyable adventure....Read more

Sunshine or 2001 2007

Ok, it took me 2-3 months to finish this movie. I was so bored that I stopped halfway through and never got started again. Finally finshed it so I can review it.
The first half was pretty slow and almost boring, and the 2nd half was almost as slow and really confusing. All in all this is an artistic movie that seem to be artisticly inspired by 2001 A Space Odyssey.

"All you have to is look out for a little extra brightness in the sky. So if you wake up one morning and it's a particularly beautiful day, you'll know we made it." Sunshine is a truly amazing and mind blowing movie that has left me in complete awe from the beginning to end. Sci-fi isn't a movie genre that I usually enjoy, but this was an exception as it was truly breathtaking. Some scenes were visually astonishing, while others were full of thrills and chills that should leave you on the edge of your seat wanting to know how this masterpiece ends. And it's the ending that really left me in complete admiration of this film, despite the circumstances of what has happened, the ending it perfect and completely satisfying. The film centers around a crew who have left earth in a frozen wi...Read more

Fantastic. I've been hanging out to see this movie and now that I finally have I'm far from disappointed. Great cast and acting, good visual effects and I loved the ending. I think this is one I'm definitely adding to my DVD collection.

Where did this come from?

Where did this movie come from? I never heard of it or saw it advertised, but I now have this in my 'must buy' dvd list. Man, Boyle hit a grand slam with this film. And he pulled off all those awe-inspiring special effects on such a tiny budget. The first half really gets you into the story, and you feel for all the characters, and when one bad decision and mistake cause the mission to unravel, and some of them die, while others sacrifice their lives for the mission, you really feel for them. and the last 15 minutes or so, when it turns more into a space horror/thriller rather than a drama, that was the icing on the cake. My wife liked the film until that part, but she doesn't like blood and killings so to each their own, but I found it added so much to the already well developed sto...Read more

This movie had an interesting premise, a solid cast and the visuals really drew me in but halfway through everything just got so confusing.
