On one level Starship Troopers works as an intense sci-fi/action flick with great battle scenes and spectacular special effects. But going beyond that it provides excellent commentary on fascism, power and war.

Okay, I saw this in the theater with a few friends and we certainly didn't expect to get much out of it. But, when we realized how graphic and violent, over the top and ridiculous it was, we had a good time.

This is one is one the last movies directed by Paul Verhoeven before getting kick out of Hollywood (the last one was "Hollow man"). Starship Troopers is focused on the end of the school career of the protagonist, John "Johnnie" Rico (Casper Van Dien), who must decide what the future will give your life. It is completely in love with his girlfriend, Carmen Ibanez (Denise Richards), which has more than outstanding skills to become a career soldier in the "Air Force" that is, pilot of the Federation. Meanwhile, Rico, whom his father had prepared another destination, decide to enroll in the only thing that can aspire to their ability and notes, the Mobile Infantry. In the film the protagonist John Rico faces great battles as the first counterattack on planet Earth Klendathu, held after the planet's inhabitants destroy the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, causing millions of deaths, but all is being a complete disaster causing loss of 100,000 soldiers in one hour, resulting also damaged or destroyed several transport ships. Rico survives but thousands of their comrades.
Later Rico with his friends Dizzy Flores and Ace Levy are reassigned to the squadron Rasczak Roughneck's (tough to Rasczak) to combat the bugs on Planet P. Upon arriving at Outpost 29 discovered that all people are dead but their commander, General Owen. He has very scared that insects are "sucking" the human brain to learn more about us, and later, after battling at the fort and the death of Lieutenant Jean Rasczak and Dizzy, Rico and Ace return to where Colonel Rodger Young intelligence and Rico's best friend in high school, Carl Jenkins (Neil Patrick Harris), which amounts to lieutenant to start the search for "insect brain."
The Roughnecks are assigned to Rodger Young that after returning to the surface of the planet in its offensive against insects, is destroyed. Fortunately Rico and the others had left the ship while. Carmen Ibanez and Zander Barcalow narrowly manage to escape in a rescue ship and fall into a cave insects are caught and Zander's brain is eaten by the "insect brain." Rico organized a bailout to save Carmen and thereafter to rise to the surface, instantly receive the news that the "insect brain" was captured.
Carmen and Rico renew their friendship and the insect is sent to Earth to learn their secrets and find a way to beat the other insects.... (more)(less)
“Starship Troopers is a really cool movie, it does not take it self seriously which is the main reason I like it so much. It is just a fun movie from start to finsih, the story is cool as well. It is set in the future where humans are fighting alien insects, and you follow a group of graduating students from a high school as they enter the military. If you like sci-fi and a fun story, than Starship Troopers is a really cool movie. Some scenes in the movie are a bit graphic, but if you can handel a bit of alien gore than you won't mind.” read more

Lt. Zander was a little manipulative, but otherwise an okay guy. He did his best to protect Carmen when the two of them were trapped underground, surrounded by an army of killer bugs.
Unfortunately, there was no escape from the bug boss, a brain bug with a hidden spike in it's face that to no one's surprise, eats brains. But Zander didn't go down like a bitch. He says some brave words before getting the spike shoved into his brain.
