The theme song that not only changed the way sci-fi movies would be approached for the future, but also changed the lives of many a hardcore nerd (not to mention, their ability to get laid), including myself.
Upon initial viewing, even the most ardent non-fan can sense that the force is strong in this one.

It was 1977 when my father and I went to see the original Star Wars, it blew me away! In the following years, I slept in a Star Wars sleeping bag and filled my home with plastic toy figures of all the cast. This movie is a true classic and changed all subsequent Sci-Fi movies, and especially their budgets, forever. In the thirty plus years that have followed, this movie has been pulled to pieces by fans, critics and experts. We now know that the tie-fighter attacks were exact copies of World War 2 footage from American bombers. In fact the whole movie is really a patchwork of the best bits of other movies, but what this different is that it works as a whole. I've never really liked Star Wars... The Luke ones were horrendous! The only reason I would even consider re-watching them is Harrison Ford as Han Solo. He is the best character in the whole Star Wars mess! Now George Lucas's original ideas were great! A Fantasy world with super-like powers, dark and light sides and all that other stuff. But I think he got a little carried away after awhile. When choosing actors and actresses he must have had his eyes closed and his ears plugged. And maybe his brain stopped. I mean, come on, Georgy-man, Mark Hamill? Any chance for coolness just flew out the window... You could have at least gotten a good-looking guy. Scored an F minus on Princess Leia. Darth Vader... “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…” Do you remember the first time those words appeared across the screen? I wish I could. Star Wars is like The Wizard of Oz for me, in that, I have seen it more times than I can count but I cannot remember the first time I saw it. It has always been, and always shall be. I know this characters as well as I know my dearest friends and family members. Yoda, Chewbacca, Han Solo and Darth Vader remain my favorites. Yes, in that exact order. Granted, Yoda doesn’t appear in the first one, but I’m taking about the franchise in masse, because, really, Star Wars is actually one nine-hour long film. Some sections are much better than others.

I really wished I was around when it came in out in the movie theaters when it was way ahead of it's time. I mean its still an excellent movie and I give it tons of respect for doing what it did when it came out. There's honestly been no movie that was as culturally shocking as Star Wars. No fans will ever be more devoted either. And what a great twist in the end... honestly, you could probably go anywhere in the world and every single person would know what you meant when you said "Luke, I am your father."

Basically, I love this movie and it was great when I was little, but I'm sad to see the death of it all.

This film revamped Science Fiction for all of us. A New Hope was released in 1977 and it changed the way we looked at space forever. I know it came after Star Trek but this saga owns. Star Wars is science fiction for the masses and has an epic following. A New Hope brings forth the ideals of a young boy who had an ordinary life which was all changed by chance and his destiny was unveiled to him. The film details that the triumph of the few can topple any foe. It gives hope for the little guy. Although the first and on a limited budget. It managed to present the mythos of the Jedi and the galaxy quite well. I think it is a must for all Sci-Fi fans and a definite for any film lover to watch as it has so many cultural references based on it and influences from the 30 years it has existe...Read more
