9 votes JJ Abrams reboot is fantastic, bringing a freshness and lightness of step that has been missing from previous Star Trek movies. Even the overused time travel plotline works in this occasion because in rewriting Star Trek history as we know it, Abrams lets us explore a different Trek universe without being hemmed in by the dictates of canon. This was the problem that the tv show Enterprise experien... read more

3 votes What a blast! Unlike most of the viewers, I made sure I watched every single Star Trek movies before watching this reboot (I know, I'm a very obsessive person...). Before watching this, I was a little bit worried that this approach would ruin this viewing for me but it was just the opposite. If you are familiar with this franchise and those characters, I'm pretty sure it is even more enjoyable. I ... read more

“JJ Abrams has freely admitted to not having grown up as a fan of Star Trek and this must have had a whole bunch of Trekkies worried. While those fears proved unfounded the director’s adolescent reservations for the franchise certainly gives a key clue to the direction he chose to go in. The original television series and numerous offspring (TNG, DS9 etc) was not particularly known for its all-out action, often filled with dialogue and philosophical reflection, a young Abram’s was more attracted to the action of Star Wars than this. So it is to no surprise that this film cuts an extraordinary pace, there hardly being enough time to breathe before another sequence of Romulan attack or black hole supernova takes place. The question is does it work? And does this new style honour what has ” read more FG93 added this to a list 1 week, 3 days ago

Those who grew up with the series or those who still hold the original series in high regard of everything else, I cannot say for sure how their feelings were, but for me, a true newbie, I was simply mind-blown; and it had almost nothing to do with the mythos of Star Trek. It was the execution style, the easy to follow storyline, the strong casting and brilliant script-writing that held my attention. Happy Vader added this to a list 1 week, 4 days ago
A Month at the Movies - May 2013 (5 movies items)" Check out my review: http://www.listal.com/viewentry/4399868 This film has a sleek as a silver concept car look to it while adopting a shiny razor-edge atmosphere that gives a two-finger salute to "older", "humdrum" films like Indiana Jones and I Am Number Four and Hulk, just to name a few. Anyway, it is brilliantly crafted, has several rewindable moments, and although it does for a moment fall into a melee free-for-all mode with several predictable moments and a Spock-ception climax, it man" Exclusive added this to a list 1 week, 5 days ago

I'm planning to watch Star Trek Into Darkness within the next few days so i decided to rewatch this one again. This was a huge surprise for me the first time i saw it as i had never been a fan of Star Trek before. This is a great sci-fi action film. I hope the next one is just as good.
