Spellbound

Spellbound seems almost quaint and naïve with its understandings and handlings of complicated psychological issues, and psychiatry as a whole. But that doesn’t prevent it from being a thoroughly enjoyable and engaging thriller from the master of that particular genre, Hitchcock. (No first name is necessary.) Luckily Hitchcock armed himself with two great actors for his lead roles, gave them a b... read more

Out of all the Hitchcock's I have yet to see, this was the one I most wanted to, if only for Salvador Dali's involvement (I'm a fan of his work, somewhat). Unfortunately, like Suspicion before it, this turned out to be a disappointment. It tries hard, but it's too talky, slightly melodramatic and could do with a considerable cut down in length, even if it is only about 110 minutes. On the plus sid... read more

A good movie

I had actually already seen this flick but it was a while back so I thought it was time for a re-watch. Honestly, a movie about mental diseases and the psychiatric world directed by Alfred Hitchcock sounded great but, unfortunately, the whole thing was rather disappointing and it is not a match to the great flicks made by the master. The main issue is that even though the psychoanalysis elements w... read more

"06.08. DVD, 1st viewing DIRECTED BY Alfred Hitchcock Resuming my Hitchcock project after many disappointingly boring and stuffy films of his. Spellbound is no masterpiece either, but at least it's a breath of fresh air with Bergman and Peck as its captivating lead actors. Another part of the film's fun is how it functions as an introduction to later-era Hitchcock films; he would weave psychoanalysis into his plots in a much more interesting and less silly and in-your-face manner later. Movies the giraffe watched in 2018: April (24 movies items)

"First viewing - April 7th Another Hitchcock film crossed off my list. Spellbound is elevated by its leads who make every scene they're in worth watching. Evidently this was the first time a major motion picture brought psychology into the story, and I thought those aspects were pretty well handled. The film follows a logical if occasionally obvious trajectory, but it's so engaging that I hardly minded. I don't know that I'd go so far as to call it a great film, but it's definitely on the upper "

" Another fascinating Alfred Hitchcock thriller that gets added value due to the surrealistic dream landscapes that were added by artist Salvador Dali. Ingrid Bergman looks fantastic throughout this film and is a excellent heroine to follow as she tries to solve the mystery nature of Gregory Peck, who is like a wandering sleepwalker throughout the film. The excellent directed climax where the true killer points a gun at Bergman while she tries to talk her way out of the problem is an effective en"
