Underrated masterpiece!

This film went beyond my expectations. Sophie's Choice is an inspiring, beautiful yet tragic story that has become a memorable film. It is quite gut retching because this film brought back the horror of the Holocaust. Regarding the Holocaust, it wasn't so much about death but about slavery in the Holocaust and about self-emotional torture. It is a story that can make people stand tall and stand ag... read more

A classic

Since it is one of the most highly regarded movies starring Meryl Streep (she even got an academy award for her performance), and I was really eager to watch this flick so I had some rather high expectations. Eventually, I had some rather mixed feelings about the whole thing. Indeed, I really had a hard time caring about the whole thing. Still, Meryl Streep was indeed really terrific and if only f... read more

A tale of tough choices in difficult times. Oscar winning Meryl Streep as a Polish woman who survived Auschwitz. But she has to bear heavy memories. Unforgettable performance.

Meryl Streep is a wonder as Sophie., writes critic Roger Ebert. There is hardly an emotion that Streep doesn't touch in this movie, and yet we're never aware of her straining. This is one of the most astonish... read more

Sophie is the survivor of Nazi concentration camps, who has found a reason to live in Nathan, a sparkling if unsteady American Jew obsessed with the Holocaust. They befriend Stingo, the movie's narrator, a young American writer new to New York City. But the happiness of Sophie and Nathan is endangered by her ghosts and his obsessions.

Greatest Film Tearjerking Moments Q - Z (51 movies items)

"The flashback scene of the excruciating, heart-rending 'choice' that Polish woman Sophie Zawistowska (Meryl Streep) had to make in a concentration camp with a Nazi officer. First, the officer told her that she was beautiful and he propositioned her: "I'd like to get you in bed." He then asked: "Are you a Polack?" She answered, trembling: "I am a Pole! I was born in Krakow. I am not a Jew. Neither are my children. They're not Jews. They are racially pure. I'm a Christian. I'm a devout Catholic." "

" Now here is a film that I ultimately just can't get comfortable with. Certainly a part of me feels that the movie abuses the horror of the holocaust in order to prey on audience sympathy. A sizable chunk of the film is told in monologue-fueled flashback, recounting the horrific past of our titular character. On there own these scenes affected and moved me to various degrees. The rest- and the majority- of the film takes place after World War II, and the problems arise in the fact that the ho"

The Toughest Choice

“A tale of tough choices in difficult times.

This is one of the most astonishing and yet one of the most unaffected and natural performances I can imagine.

Kevin Kline's weird character's bit annoying, though, and the "American" storyline is a tad slow and too... American to my taste!

However, you may love it or not, but you will definitely remember this movie for a long time.” read more
