Somers Town; the neighbourhood of London squeezed between the Euston, St. Pancras, and Kings Cross railway termini is the unlikely location and title of Brit director Shane Meadow's latest effort. I say 'unlikely' as it marks the first time Meadows has shot on location outside of his native East Midlands. It also marks his first film since the BAFTA winning 'This Is England'. Sixteen year old runaway Tomo (Thomas Turgoose) arrives in London off the train from Nottingham to a beating from a trio of cockney kids which results in the loss of his bag and wallet. Whilst contemplating his next move Tomo meets Polish immigrant Marek (Piotr Jagiello). The pair form a mutual appreciation society for the lovely Maria (Elisa Lasowski) a French girl who works at the local cafe and they turn thei...Read more

A Different side of Shane Meadows

Second surprising feel-good -movie this year from UK (Mike Leigh: Happy-Go-Lucky). Tomo (Thomas Turgoose) travels from Notting hill to London to hang out because he felt that he didn't have anything left back home, nothing more explained and his choise isn't moralized. Tomo is carefree, sympathetic and impulsive. He gets into some troubles at first, because he isn't used to the milieu. Soon he gets hooked up with Marek (Piotr Jagiello) and form a sort of odd friendship with him. This might be the ultimate hangin around feel-good film of lonely kids. It's fun, it's in some ways very plausible and it doesn't moralize. It even presents minors drinking in a positive way. I really enjoyed it, a different side of Shane Meadows (This is England, Dead man's shoe, a Room for Romea Brass)

Enjoyable enough but the obvious Eurostar plugs really grate after a while. And no story, it just kinda ends for no reason. I cant believe reviewers dont make more of the Eurostar thing, it makes you cringe the whole way through! His dad is so happy about working for Eurostar, the station is so beautiful, the ending switching to colour etc. ... ewww!

What happened? Dead Mans Shoes, This is England, Room for Romeo Brass were all brilliant. Even Once upon a time.. was better than this
