“I thought it was a really gloomy and depressing movie. Once again, after "Monster" and "North Country", Charlize Theron shows she definitely can play a white trash woman. All the actors deliver good perfomances and the directing was pretty good too. Unfortunately, I can't say I really enjoyed it. First of all, none of the characters really interested me. Joleen (the mother-played by Charlize Theron) is a total bitch, she drops her kid for months and when she comes back, we're suppose to rejoice but it didn't work for me. James (the brother - played by Nick Stahl) is a pathetic loser who barely can take of himself and who 's completely incapable of taking care of his niece.
