I highly recommend Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. If you haven't seen it yet, all I can say is that if you like serial-style movies, or Max Fleischer cartoons (the old superman cartoons), or movies set in a Pre-world war II era, go see it. Or even if you like Gwenyth Paltrow or Jude Law. That's all I can say without spoiling anything.

This movie is amazing. Angelina was ... read more

Back in 2004, there was not one but for 4 movies released which were entirely shot against blue screens. I have seen all of them : ‘Immortal (Ad Vitam)’, ‘ Casshern’ , ‘Sin City’ and this movie. Even though 10 years later, this process doesn’t sound really impressive, I thought it was quite fascinating back in those days and I watched all of them. Eventually, except for ‘Sin City... read more

The correct title for the film should be Sky Captain & the World of where lipstick never runs out, heroes are heroes, villains are dead and where 1 minute equals to 5. Anyway, visual-wise it is impressive. It is set in an imaginary 1939 and has a pulpy feel to it. Sky Captain is a retro-future film, so that means a lot of CGI and Blue Screen was put into it, and while some age correctly, even impr... read more

Movie Reviews (1151-1200) (50 movies items)

" The idea is excellent: a kind of 1930s serial with over-the-top silent movie / Fritz Lang-style expressionism, robots, aerial battle sequences and a fun atmospheric story. The set design and decor is beautiful and Laurence Oliver's "from the dead" cameo as a kind of "man behind the curtain" is inspired, but the execution is flat as the movie feels more like in-cut sequences for a computer game that never was produced. I have seldom seen more lifeless acting from the Hollywood stars than here an"

The future kind of sucks. (355 movies items)

"Reason for the future sucking: Super robots arrive, creating destruction everywhere, and scientists are also disappearing, for seemingly no reason at all. Year it takes place: Alternate year, 1939. "

2016: Films I've Watched in September (30 movies items)

"First Watched 9/8/2016 A film that certainly has problems (particularly in the effects department in terms of ageing). But, damn if I was not hooked on this fun adventure that pays tribute to movie serial WAY before my time XD "
