Sick but True...

''So there was actually one place on American soil with free, universal healthcare.'' [cut to ariel picture of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba] ''That's all I needed to know.'' A documentary comparing the highly profitable American health care industry to other nations, and HMO horror stories. Michael Moore: Himself I personally have found Michael Moore to be a most interesting individual. I find his ability to divulge in controversial issues and address serious scenarios, allow people who witness his documentary-styled films an eye opening account of the subject matter. This piece is no different, but with a twist. He comes with easily checkable facts & lots of them. Any American who watches this will (Excluding certain CEOs of HMOs) be appalled by what they see. Any person from Can...Read more

Sicko

I will preface this by saying that every source of every bit of information needs to be taken with a grain of salt. However if you can watch this movie and say that there doesn't need to be a serious re-haul in the American health system then you may indeed be the "sicko." This movie actually made me cry, a woman's husband being denied treatment for kidney cancer, in the hospital she worked in, by her insurance company it was disgusting. He died. And he wasn't the only one, there is a list, a list, of people who died or were going to die because of their HMO denying them care, denying them treatment for cancer saying that it wasn't necessary, it wasn't fatal, the procedures weren't tested enough, and any other excuse to avoid shelling out a buck. I don't care how you feel about Mo...Read more

typical moore

its very predictable how moore will present a topic. If you are used to bowling for columbine or even his tv series "awful truth", you just know what happens.

I guess on a lower level it is important that he does what he does, but any person who is really interested in politics and has a bit background knowledge can not just go with him.

When he loves european healthcare so much, why didn't he talk about the progress of change that is taking place currently in europe? The "everything is free" systems encourage a mentality where everyone tries to get as much out of the syystem as he can, resulting in high taxes and costs for every individual.
So actually, things here are going back to make patients pay individually to reduce costs ...

Hits very close to home

Posted : 2 years, 4 months ago at Jun 18 7:11
Having a 2.5 year old daughter suffering from a rare blood disorder and needed monthly medical treatment (it's getting better; it used to be a weekly ordeal), Michael Moore's 'Sicko' documentary really hits very close to home. I am very very thankful that I live in Canada were we believe that health care is a RIGHT, not a PRIVILEGE. Sure, our system is not perfect, and there's always ways to improve it. But reading on ITP forums (what my child is diagnosed with) and hearing about similar cases from the States where each 'treatment' costs the family $5,000 in fees, and being forced to just rely on the grace of God for their child to survive, because some of the treatments are not covered by their insurance, that's just not right. Let's just say we've had so far 10 treatments with our ...Read more
