We have all heard the happy bedtime stories with princesses and fairies and beautiful creatures great and small, but Shrek breaks the mold by showing how things would really be like.

The main character is Shrek, a rude and crude Ogre, who simply wants to live alone in peace, until he meets his soon to be friend, Donkey, a talking donkey. The two instantly become friends, at least in... read more

"Okay, let me get this straight: you gonna go fight a dragon and rescue a princess just so Farquaad'll give you back your swamp, which you only don't have 'cos he filled it full of freaks in the first place, is that about right?"

Once Pixar Studios released 1995's Toy Story (the first entirely computer-animated feature film in history) the reality of producing CG animated films was ... read more

Shrek- like the Dreamworks CGI film that preceded it, Antz- attempts to target an older audience in comparison to competing companies like Disney and Pixar. And yet, curiously enough, most of Shrek's jokes are just plain childish. Surely the absurd amount of gross-out gags contained within the the first 5 minutes of the film weren't meant to entertain adults, were they? Yes, there is some edgy ... read more

It ain't easy bein' green, especially if you're a likable, albeit smelly, ogre named Shrek. On a mission to retrieve a gorgeous princess from the clutches of a fire-breathing dragon, Shrek teams up with an unlikely compatriot, a wisecracking Donkey.

" It's probably ten years since I saw Shrek. I remembered liking it a lot, despite not remembering too much from it. Upon revisiting it now, I've come to the conclusion that I should have let it stay in my memory. It simply didn't hold up. I think it opens strongly, with all the various nods to different fairy tales and how it pokes fun at those tropes. But then it falls a part like a card house. The plot becomes extremely generic and tiresome, the jokes stop being funny and the film seems to ha"

A good movie

“To be honest, it is a little bit difficult to judge this movie after all these years, especially after they really milked this franchise with some rather underwhelming sequels. And yet, we should try not to forget the impact of this first installment when it was released. If I recall it correctly, I actually saw it at the time in the movie theater when I was on holiday in the US. Back in those days, Dreamworks was doing some decent business with their animated features but Pixar was still very much far ahead with their groundbreaking computer animated masterpieces. Well, it all changed with this movie which was a huge box-office success, breaking all the records made by Pixar and it became an instant pop-culture phenonemom. Indeed, the whole thing looked amazing, the concept was, at ” read more

Movies the giraffe watched in 2015: February (26 movies items)

"Re-watch - Feb. 1st The kiddo watched this at preschool last week, which is interesting given this film's main audience is not preschoolers. Anyway, she must have loved it because when we woke up on this particular Sunday morning she insisted we watch it together. And so we did. And I still love it...it makes me laugh, I dig the story & characters & the ways it pokes fun at fairy tales all around. It's just too bad they had to make a bunch of inferior sequels which tarnished its reputation."

And yet, curiously enough, most of Shrek's jokes are just plain childish. Surely the absurd amount of gross-out gags contained within the the first 5 minutes of the film weren't meant to entertain adults, were they? Yes, there is some edgy content that will appeal more to adults, and some humor that kids won't get, but for the most part, nearly everything contained within Shrek is just kids stuff. And pretty weak kids stuff at that.

Shrek is sort of a parody to the classic Disney films, and various fairy-tales. Shrek, an ogre, has his swamp suddenly populated with fairy-tale characters. Furious, Shrek complains to the p” read more
