Cute Happy Movie

4 years, 7 months ago at Dec 31 21:22
James Stewart as cute and adorable as always (perhaps a lil more grumpy) and some funny situations. The script skips the main characters conflict nearly altogether but I guess that´s the way the movies were made back then.

It´s a happy movie to watch.

The Other Jimmy Stewart Christmas Movie

The Shop Around the Corner was the first Ernst Lubitsch film I saw, and as soon as the characters started interacting with each other I instantly knew this was a guy who knew how to handle dialogue, in what is referred to as the so called ‘Lubitsch Touch’. With such levels of subtly, this is the kind of movie that needs to be watched multiple times, and gets better every time you do so. Often ... read more

50 Great Movies That Were Not Nominated For Any Os (50 movies items)

"It’s borderline unthinkable to imagine a romantic comedy up for Best Picture now, but in the 1930s and 1940s, it was relatively common for them to win, let alone be shortlisted. Which makes it all the more puzzling that Ernst Lubitsch’s “The Shop Around The Corner,” one of the most perfect examples of the genre, would be overlooked. Was it the film’s celebration of a storybook Europe soon after the outbreak of war there? Or just a film seen as being too frothy for Academy tastes?"
