She's the Man is the latest contemporary reinvention of a classic Shakespeare play. A few years before, the world witnessed the release of 10 Things I Hate About You which was ostensibly Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew updated and transplanted into a typical modern teenage society. In tradition with that successful film (that I have no shame in admitting I enjoyed), the screenwriter of She's the Man has taken the foundation of Shakespeare's The Twelfth Night and altered the setting to modern day teenage culture. Wie schon bei „10 Dinge, die ich an dir hasse“ so basiert auch diese Teenie-Romantic-Comedy auf Shakespears „Was ihr wollt“. Dem unausweichlichen Vergleich hält die vorliegende Komödie jedoch nicht ganz Stand. Das liegt sowohl an den Darstellern als auch an der Inszenierung. Die für sich genommen keinesfalls schlecht sind, nur im Vergleich zu „10 Dinge....“ schlechter ausfallen. Positiv fallen vor allem die beiden Nebendarsteller Vinnie Jones und David Cross sowie der humorvolle Umgang mit dem Thema Gender-Diskriminierung auf. Alles in Allem, bietet der Film locker leichte Unterhaltung für die anvisierte junge, weibliche Zielgruppe.
