GAINSBOURG threatens to be an interesting take on the usual biopic structure, but reverts to the usual tropes halfway through. Which is dissapointing, because the first act is great.

Artsy portait of the legendary singer. Director Sfar tries so hard to hide the traditional storyline under the artsy visuals that the movie feels fake and shallow. "
