''I want to play a game.''

With a dead body laying between them, two men (Whannell and Elwes) wake up in the secure lair of a serial killer who's been nicknamed "Jigsaw" by the police because of his unusual calling card.

Leigh Whannell: Adam

The original Saw, a film that was originally planned for a straight-to-video release but after receiving positiv... read more

This film had Danny Glover in it, so just HOW was it so bad! I can only assume that the appreciation for this film and its sequels comes from the sick pleasure you get out of seeing the weird and wonderful ways the killer comes up with murdering his victims. There really isn't much else to say about this film. It isn't really clever or interesting, Se7en blows it clean out of the water. Just watch... read more

the 2004 movie that started the series, about lessons learned in life; the hard way. Danny Glover plays a detective on a hunt to find a madman who’s victims deaths are just they’re failures of an unsuspecting unwilling game. The game depends on how they view life and what they choose to take for granted; setting up the room they die in and how they get helped before they even realize it. The m... read more

Would you kill to live? That's what two men, Adam and Gordon, have to ask themselves when they're abducted by a serial killer and paired up in a deadly situation, holed up in a prison constructed with such ingenuity that escape seems impossible.

It Came, I Saw, I'll See No More

The movie proved to be better than what I predicted but I'm appalled and sickened by the high rating of such a movie. There is minimal redeeming value and while it does nice in the mind games genre it's not good enough in the filmmaking standpoint.” read more

Movies the giraffe watched in 2015: April (29 movies items)

"First viewing - April 1st Back in 2004 or 2005, I forget which, I dropped by to pick up a friend on our way out for the night & he & his then-wife were watching Saw. It was at the end of it he said, so I did my best to ignore what was going on in case I wanted to watch it myself someday. I wound up catching part of it though, which is partly to blame on this being my first viewing 10ish years later. So when it popped up on Netflix I figured what the hell & decided to finally watch it. And I've"

Movie Diary March 2015 (14 movies items)

"So prior to watching this I had seen several of the other films from the franchise, but never the original. Everybody told me, "You have to watch the first one! It's the best one!" Honestly, I think it's about the same as the rest. It's just a gore fest. If that's your kind of thing, sure, you'll love it. It was a little bit more thought provoking than the other 6 movies(6? Or 5? I don't know). "

“There's lots I could say here, but I'll keep it short and sweet, I rate this the highest not based on how gory and horror like it was but for it's originality, and what a great franchise this starts out as. First I'm going to talk about certain cast members, Cary played Lawrence Gordon really well, but his character fucking annoyed the hell out of me, he just did. On the other hand Leigh did a better job, loved his character all the way through, is it me though or was his mouth always open at most scenes he was in, it was kinda hot I guess, and he's a gorgeous man, but I won't say anymore on that also really liked the secondary characters as well. I obviously know i have all the other films to watch, people like only this one mostly, this may be overrated in the franchise, but who cares, i” read more

“The first Saw is brilliant, and it is a shame that they had to make more and ruin the first one. The story was different and actually really good, I enjoyed the atmosphere of the movie, as well as the flow. Cary Elwes plays Dr Gordon the man in the action along with Leigh Whannell as Adam, for a movie with few actors they did a good job at keeping you glued to the screen. Some people think the movie is overrated, but for me I really enjoyed it. Like all movies you like it or don't, but if you like a good thriller horror you will like this.” read more

An average movie

“I usually don’t care much about hype. I mean, I saw Titanic maybe a couple of years after its release (I really boycotted this one for a long time), the first Harry Potter flick at least 6 months after it was released, same thing with Twilight and I still have to check ‘The Hunger Games’. I eventually watch those movies, just to check what was the fuss about, but always on my terms and I never rush to watch those. Anyway, my sister had this movie on DVD so I thought it was time to finally check it out. Eventually, I must admit it was not bad at all but still extremely overrated, especially concerning the gore aspect. I mean, I wasn’t nothing really hardcore in my opinion and, honestly, it still remains pretty mainstream and if you compare it to the weird sh*t coming from Asia, espe” read more

New-to-Me Films of 2012 (366 movies items)

"Saw starts off interesting enough, presenting an terror-filled storyline with a narrative that explores the natures of the characters presented. Around the middle of the film, however, it starts to get very messy and unfocused. The filmmakers seem to inject a forced sentimentality and characterization into this film, making it uneven in flow and progression. Moreover, the acting is unpalatable and many sequences are completely drowned in its visual over-stylization. An unfortunate result of genu"
