''He better be worth it. He better go home and cure a disease, or invent a longer-lasting light bulb.''

The war film of war films!

Over the years, there have been war films based on different wars that either feature real-life characters or fictional characters. Saving Private Ryan is one that is a combination of both; characters are fictional but the invasion of Normandy itself is true. Also, there are films set during a war that features normal people not in combat but there are others set during a war where there are soldi... read more

This film is definitely one of my favourite war films. This is thanks, in part, to its brutal realism, particularly from the opening scenes. The first time I watched the assault on Normandy beach I was close to vomiting. The violence is horrendous, but what makes it so difficult to watch is the fact that it is the reenactment of a true event. This isn't a laughable gore-fest cooked up in the mind ... read more

Top 10 Opening Action Scenes (10 movies items)

" Another choice that should surprise absolutely nobody. Whilst this is technically more of a war movie than an action movie, the Omaha Beach sequence is one hell of a combat depiction nevertheless. The violence pulls absolutely no punches, and you're drawn into this scene very quickly. It's completely riveting."

My Top 10 Favourite Film Scenes (10 movies items)

" This one needs no introduction. Steven Spielberg's war opus is one of my all-time favourites, and the Omaha Beach sequence is iconic. It's interesting to look back on it in 2015, and see that it still holds up. The filmmaking is sensational. The violence and gore is perfectly-judged, the multi-layered sound mixing is out of this world, the period detail is spot-on, the acting is incredible, and the cinematography is shaky without being irritating. You truly feel that you are fucking there. Yo"

" This war epic wins me over because of its brutal, unflinching realistic nature of the horror that is war. Particularly during the opening scene. It then goes on to become an emotionally devastating film."

It's realistic, it's amazing!

“Steven Spielberg does a superb demonstration of great war movies with his direction in 'Saving Private Ryan' a movie that earned him an Academy Award for Best Director! This direction is his best!

Everyone says that the first 27 minutes of this movie are very, very shocking! Indeed! Blood, destructed bodies, red water! At the start of this movie, Captain John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) and his army end up on the beach which depicts the Omaha Beach assault of 6th June 1944. The shooting occurs at the start and is very unpleasant! This is bloody violent! It's realistic, it's amazing!

So, Miller and his army spend most of the movie searching for Private James Ryan (Matt Damon) who is believed to be dead at first! They do what it says in the title - saving Private Ryan! This tit” read more
