A highly original and entertaining film. I really enjoyed it. Not because I am incredibly biased and love everything Bill Murray touches, but because it was something that I never expected to be any good. This film is hilarious, not quite in the 'subtle comedy' type of way that everyone describes Bill Murray films as, but just laugh out loud funny. The humour is mature and the characters are remar... read more

I liked this film as much as The Royal Tenenbaums, which was also directed and written by Wes Anderson (co-written with Owen Wilson). Some people might not appreciate the quirkiness of his films, but I enjoy Anderson (and to the same extend Wilson's) dark sense of humour and his skewed yet strangely appealing and profound view of life. As in The Royal Tenenbaums, the characters in this film are qu... read more

The best of Wes Anderson, the right equilibrium of tenderness, comedy, extravance and realism. Schwartzman in his once in a lifetime character. His plays, full of naive FX, are a bonus

“My previously barely-above-average opinion of Wes Anderson I think is starting to change; I think I'm finally starting to see the true appeal. Rushmore was a great film. I still prefer The Life Aquatic, but the film accomplishes much of the things any good film should: it has great acting, witty dialogue, interesting characters and a thoroughly unique, entertaining and poignant story. I think this may have been some sort of tipping point for Anderson where he was quirky but not too quirky, as evidenced in some of his later works; in same ways this isn't too great because I do admire Anderson's quirkiness, but in many ways it's also quite impressive because it shows Anderson's skill as a storyteller much more.

There was one major flaw that started to occur in the middle which is w” read more

"Ok, esse filme me lembra de que é melhor assistir filmes sem ter nenhuma expectativa. Amo Wes Anderson, amo seus personagens, suas histórias excêntricas e um quê de psicodélicas. Mas esse filme não chegou perto do que eu conheço dele. Ok, é um dos primeiros, posso dar crédito a isso mas não curti a história e achei o final muito sem graça."

Movie Diary - August 2013 (14 movies items)

"Watched in English with English subtitles Well I can't help myself, but I guess I totally fall for Wes Andersons movies now. I like his characters and his enactments as well as his actors and his application of music. Someone who puts Cat Stevens to his movie automatically has my sympathy. I even like his slow motion moments, which he overdoes a little bit, but it always works. I'm longing for his other movies. "
