Before becoming a huge Hollywood star, Russell Crowe started his career in Australian productions and gave his breakthrough performance in this flick. Eventually, I had some mixed feelings about the whole thing. At first, it is an intriguing depiction of the Skinheads. Basically they are young white guys with low self-esteem, no skills, no education, no social or financial leverage and not much ho... read more

“Before becoming a huge Hollywood star, Russell Crowe started his career in Australian productions and gave his breakthrough performance in this flick. Eventually, I had some mixed feelings about the whole thing. At first, it is an intriguing depiction of the Skinheads. Basically they are young white guys with low self-esteem, no skills, no education, no social or financial leverage and not much hope of a bright future. When they become skinheads, they find a sense of community, some companionship and an ideology which finally gives meaning to their miserable life. However, the makers of this movie provided some rather ambivalent views on this movement as they make it almost attractive with some catchy skinhead songs and those guys seemed to have usually a good time and even some cool party” read more

Morrissey's influences (120 movies items)

"This was mentioned by Morrissey as one of his favourite films in the press release for the "Maladjusted" album. He actually signed that press release with the name Stoney Hando, a twist on the name of one of the characters in the film. The first line in this movie is "This is not your country", which is also the title of a Morrissey b-side from 1997. "

""We came to wreck everything, and ruin your life. God sent us." Directed by: Geoffrey Wright Starring: Russell Crowe, Daniel Pollock, Jacqueline McKenzie Rating: 7/10 Intense, brutal and authentic. Russell Crowe is excellent, but the movie is a bit slow sometimes. "

"An early leading role for Russell Crowe's as he plays the leader of a hardcore gang of skinheads who roam the streets down undah & revel in beating up "foreigners" & robbing the well-to-do. Just a group of lads taking any opportunity to dish out some good ol' wholesome Aussie racial violence whenever they can.... "
