Description

The sixth installment of the Rocky series picks up the story of the Italian Stallion 16 years after the morose Rocky V. And sure, at his advanced age, Sylvester Stallone now looks like one of those sides of beef his character used to pound on. No matter. Somehow you buy the premise after all these years, even if it takes forever for Rocky Balboa to ... (more)

Sure as hell beats part V

The first Rocky movie is one of the greatest drama movies of all time. It's one of the few which I openly give 10/10 to no matter what. It's a great shame that the sequels weren't anywhere near as good... until now that is. This is absolutely the most cheesiest, korny and cliched movie ever. It is also one with more heart than any other movie I've seen in years. This thing was made simply out of love towards the Rocky legacy and overall cinema. I always loved how the main thing in these movies wasn't boxing, it was and is Rocky himself. Boxing is just in there because the story wouldn't work too well if Rocky was a football player or something. I mean here the boxing angle doesn't properly even enter the movie until the last 35 minutes. The story serves up all this nicely, the great script...Read more

Better than I thought

You know, going into this movie, I really never wanted to watch it. I didnt really have an interest in this one, but I thought it might be a good thing to experience at least once. Surprisingly, it kept the whole 'Rocky' feel. A backtown rocky comes out of retirement, as brainless as ever, to fight the heavyweight champian. This movie was a pretty good one, so if you liked the other rocky movies then rent it.

Ciao Rocky!

For a film that I initially thought would be doomed from the offset Rocky Balboa really didn't turn out bad. It's a good character study focused on flawed relationships and the issues of self-respect and dignity. Not for one minute does it feel like another excuse for an aged action star to cash-in. And if it's action you prefer then the fight scenes cater too. Beautifully stylised, and much more realistic than before.

In summary 'Rocky Balboa' is perfect closure for this three decade old series. It's not quite on a par with the fighters début bout, but it easily puts what comes between to shame.

Valeu!
