Alan Johnson has everything he needs to get through life: a good job, a beautiful and loving wife, and their wonderful children. Yet he feels isolated because he finds having a hard-working job and managing a family too much to handle and has no one to talk to about it. Charlie Fineman, on the other hand, doesn't have a job or a family. He used to ... (more)

Go on Sandman !

What an actor ! Everybody knows him as a great comedian but at Click and this movie he showed that he can play drama as well. I loved his acting in this movie.

The story is great, too. The friendship of Charlie and Alan was touchable. And Liv Tyler maked the movie prettier, gorgeous woman.

A compelling, transfixing human drama

"...Then I go inside the airport and I'm watching. I'm watching on the television... and I... and I... I... I saw it. I saw it and I felt it at the same time. I thought about Geena's birthmark, and I... I felt them burning..." Reign Over Me is an uplifting, emotionally-straining drama regarding friendships and heartbreaks set on the foundation of a person's life that was distressed by 9/11. It's intense but humorous, and heart-wrenching but touching. Reign Over Me also signifies an endeavour by Adam Sandler to undertake a serious role that espouses an unequivocally distinct style of humour. The former star of Happy Gilmore and other mediocre comedies attempts something dissimilar to anything he's done before. Instead of nonsensically overzealous and unnecessarily foul-mouthed, Sandler i...Read more

Nothing New, but Takes A New Path Getting There

Posted : 1 year, 5 months ago at Jun 14 7:06
The scene stealer of this film are the scenes themselves. The cinematography is so lovely, without hindering the movie in anyway. The actors aren't bad either. The story revolves around two college roommates who haven't seen each other in years and how they ended up where they are. One has everything, and one has had everything important taken from him. One of the films great attributes is how it takes you down a path where you think you know your going, but doesn't quite go there after all. It's pretty intricate in its emotional content, and is a thinking persons' movie. It frequently skips scenes other movies would have walked you through. If the scene didn't have interesting emotional content, it wasn't there. It doesn't always keep an even keel, but then neither does life. I ...Read more

Great buddy flick

Posted : 1 year, 10 months ago at Jan 20 9:35
The best buddy flick I've seen in a long time. Fresh, original and heart-warming. The chemistry between Sandler and Cheadle is a joy to watch. Loved the references to The Who's song and the film 'Quadrophenia' it came from, however, Pearl Jam shoulda left well alone.

a Sandler surprise!

Charlie Finneman (Adam Sandler) is a man who lost his family in the September 11 attack on New York City. Alan Johnson (Don Cheadle) is a dentist, who one day runs into Charlie, his old college roommate. Not knowing anything about Charlie's family will help Alan in rekindling their friendship, and in helping Charlie slowly recover from his grief.

This is definitely Sandler at its best. I've never cared for his comedies, but I enjoyed his performance as Charlie. Quite convincing. Yes, Don Cheadle is always great, Jada Pinkett-Smith as Alan's wife is also excellent, but Liv Tyler has always disappointed me. She just looks bored in this movie, bored and bland.
Good script, nice tearjerking story.

Worth watching. Recommended.

touching

in my last review of a sandler movie (i guess it was "click"), I said that he should stick to comedy instead of pretending to be an actor.

But now, after this one, I have to correct myself: It's a good movie and Adam actually plays convincingly.

Still not enough to get in the all times faves or must see section, but solid work.

Woah.. who would've thought this could be so good? The whole time I was watching it my eyes were 100% glued to the screen- not once was a bored of the story. Reign Over Me is the story of Charlie Fineman, a man who lost his family in the September 11 attack, who runs into his old college roommate, Alan Johnson. When Alan finds Charlie still suffering from the grief of his family; isolated from everyone else, Alan is determined to help Charlie restore his life and emotionally become better. It’s a sad story, though it may not sound like it. I certainly came close to tears.. But things like that just make this movie even better and more worthwhile watching. Before this movie I only thought of Adam Sandler as a comedian, i had no idea that he could nail these types of movies, the stor...Read more

The Best Film So Far This Year

Posted : 2 years, 7 months ago at Apr 22 13:40
I know I haven't seen many films this year, but out of all the ones I have seen this is by far the best. I wasn't really expecting much from it because Adam Sandler was going to get all serious again. That last time I saw him do a serious drama was with Spanglish and that turned out to be a slight let down. Punch-Drunk Love was good, but didn't showcase his talents enough. This film, on the other hand, was absolutely wonderful. Adam Sandler has never impressed me this much before and I was absolutely shocked to see him in such a strong role. This movie is Adam Sandler's best movie. There is no arguing with that. Mike Binder (who plays Charlie's lawyer in the film) helms this film and does a safe job with it. I wouldn't say he did a great directorial job, but at least it was evident. The...Read more
