When I was a kid, I really enjoyed this flick. Back then, I was about 12 years old and I didn't know it was a huge flop and a laughable matter. Anyway, 20 years later, I though it was time for a re-watch, this time with Nick, my step-son. Honestly, I really don't get the hate towards this flick. Indeed, there was some cool music by Ennio Morricone, the whole thing (costums, sets, props,...) looked... read more

The Ups: Janet Agreen is great in a supporting role and I thought that it was she who was Red Sonja. Great title music.
The Downs: Birgitte Nielsen is not even believable when she is standing still with just the sword in her hand. She is like a long legged bush with balloons on her branches. Arnold does his worst apperance on film. Extremly annoying child actor. Terrible effects. It isn't even "so bad it is funny". "

"Red Sonja returns to those olden days when women were women and the menfolk stood around with funny hats on until called forth to be whacked at.
- Variety Staff, Variety
Mr. Fleischer brings absolutely no playfulness to what might, at least, have been enjoyably light. And he brings out the worst in a cast that was ill-chosen to begin with.
- Janet Maslin, New York Times
The film is at least as good as Conan the Destroyer. Which is faint praise, indeed.
- Tim Brayton, Antagony & Ecstasy"

Indeed, there was some cool music by Ennio Morricone, the whole thing (costums, sets, props,...) looked really awesome and, even though the story was really pedestrian, it thought it was entertaining enough. Of course, something I didn't notice when I was kid, the acting was really weak, especially concerning Arnold Schwarzenegger and Brigitte Nielsen, even though they were both pretty badass. They were not helped either by those terribly cheesy dialogs. Still, all in all, I don't think it deserves” read more

"Arnold Schwarzenegger, Red Sonja
The actor-turned-governor has had a lot of successful films. However, he has anything but a perfect resume and has expressed displeasure with some of his previous projects.
"Red Sonja" is one of those movies that the former bodybuilder regrets making and he hasn't shied away from sharing what he really thinks about it. "It's the worst film I have ever made," said the star of the fantasy movie.
